    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

how about mounting a fender to the swingarm?

so why would this never happen? I don't see it, but it seems kinda fun? some struts to the swingarm so the fender rides close and low to the wheel without worrying about clearance?

just messing about and laid my fender on the tire started me wondering. may as well get it out of my head by learning the problems now before I start anything...:oops:
 
looks good!! I'm looking at working with a flaired fender from a vstar I think, but same concept!
 
I was planning on doing that to my bike. I just love the way the fender looks when it just hovers over the rear tire. But if i don't do that I'll probably just run with out one.
 
I've seen it done very simply to a shaft-drive VT500 Shadow. The front of the fender was bent 90 degrees and bolted to the front of the swingarm, then brackets were made from 1/4" rod and attached, two per side, in a "V" pattern from a pivot point mounted on the swingarm. Turned out pretty nice looking. They turned it into a solo seat, which makes sense on a little 500 cruiser and looks pretty good, and they hacked the rear subframe off right behind the solo seat.
 
I was going to try mounting it that way, but couldnt get around cutting the crap out of the fender to clear the trac bar that mounts to the caliper.

So i welded up a crappy little bracket that bolts to the chain guard and the original bolt holes on the fender.

I'm going to try again later with some steel rod... Once i get settled into my new house.
 
i'm gonna do that on my bike. i made a fiberglass hugger fender, and I'm going to (more or less) velcro it to the swingarm
 
well I didn't go with a wheel mount, just jammed the fender I had up under the frame brace in the back and put some bolts on it...

this is how it sits in the driveway, the saddle's fun but the saddle horn is too wide for my legs to comfortably reach the controls. I get a lot of comments tho...

this is how I test ride it usually, an old CU events parking sign replete with CUPD stamp in the metal. I didn't steal it, just found it in the trash when some students moved...

need to get some foam to cut up and I have some leather to use on covering the seat, if I don't figure out how to mount the saddle that is...:-s
 
what kind of fender is that snowbeard? I am considering something like that for my 750l.
 
I actually have no idea. I found it at a recycling place in the yard, dented and marked up with a pink autobody marker... hammered out the bend with a rubber mallet, its not "pretty" per se, but it gives that flair.:wink:

there are round holes, oblong holes, holes with tabs in them, even a big square hole... I doubt I'll go to all the trouble to glass it or paint it, it's kindof a mockup, buit maybe if the bike runs for a few years I'll touch it up...
