Just as the title says. So whats the blackest black out there today? This is for a skunk project.

Blackest black what chuck? Rattle can spray paint? Urethane base coat? Engine paint? Sounds like Renobruces bike caught your eye.;)

Base coat for the 78 1000 E. I asked a few body shops and i get..Well depends on what shade of black you want..heres a few shots of the starting point..I of course will be doing POR 15 before painting..I thought black was well...black!!!

The redish brown is primer over where the paint was peeling. It looks way worse than it really is.

Dale is going to paint his skunk Chuck. Why not ask him to get you some paint when he gets that far? Dale is pretty anal about that sort of stuff, plus his wife works in a body shop so they can get the materials for a good price I suspect.

Well the recent move has increased the distance from our front doors from about 55 miles to over 1700. He is a super great friend of mine and i know he would. Hes got his feet in too many fires as it is. I also sent the same pics to Larry.. So , just how many BLACKS are there? I want the one that looks like your reaching into it after the clear has been applied.. Thats super evil deep black!!

Did the '78 original black paint have a bit of blue flake in it like the '79 has or was it just black? If so I have a paint code that's a perfect match.

I dint look that closely Sandy..Will look tomorrow. The bike is on the back deck right now. Flashlight isnt gonna be very effective .. LOL

According to Alpha Sports colour charts they where the same. Black Pearl Bluing 06T. I had my damaged tail piece painted to match my NOS tank and even in bright sun and holding them side by side you cannot tell the diffence. Anyway, if you're going to go stock the code is from a 2000 Honda Civic NH592P known as Flamenco Black Pearl. Any paint shop will have the colour chips for you to look at.

I keep all the bikes stock..thanks for the name and year info.. I didnt know what to say when i was asked what color of black i wanted..seemed a strange question.

Dupont paint code 99k is the paint mixers standard when someone asks for straight black. Any mixer should know it.

Edited to correct.

That number can be crossed to any brand of paint btw. Just visit your preferred paint vendor and give them that number. My skunk is painted in SW paint in 99k with GM Championship White for the stripe.

99K was used by a good many people. Hence it being the standard. But it's a Dupont code.

I dont wanna be a pest!!!

Chuck,

That Dupont paint won't be a proper match for the Skunk paint. As Sandy already mentioned, it has some metallic in it.

When the paint is mixed for Dale's bike it's no extra work to mix extra. Follow Dale's lead and send him money to cover the costs. He will get the color properly matched.

Just my .02 here Chuck. I'm not a very experienced painter. (I have painted 3 bikes myself, and helped on one car.) I have owned two black cars and I know what you mean about the deep appearance. The depth of the finished appearance depends as much on the clear coat as anything else. You need a very flat surface under the clear so that it doesn't show any waves. Then once the clear is painted, wet sand out any orange peel, and buff the paint to the desired shine. Black, more than any other color will punish you for any body work imperfections, but reward you with the most depth on a quality paint job. Unfortunately, I have no advice to offer on what paint code is the blackest black. Good luck with your search.

Testarosa..youve got way more advice than i have. Rattle can is my level of painting experience. Some things are just better left out of my hands..LOL

Chuck, straight blacks can come with a blue or brown cast to them. the tint or shade of a color, gloss and the depth of gloss are two different animals. both color and gloss can be affected by the clear you use, the number of top coats applied and the level (smoothness) of the finished surface.

I can give the tank to Nancy and get it scanned if that would help you.
