DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How do I know which r/r to get?

I am going to be replacing my bad OEM stator with a caltric stator and I figured I might as well upgrade my r/r while I am at it.

I would like to get a used shindengen or polaris r/r. Preferably a series type rather than the shunt type. My question is, how do I know which r/r will be compatible with my 650L? I ask because I assume an 1100 would use a different r/r than my 650. I looked at the list of compatible r/r's on Basscliff's website but it does not specify which size engine they work with.

Can anyone suggest an r/r for me? Part/model numbers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

They all will work. A lot of folks like the FH rather than the SH. If price is no object, the Compufire r/r is the biz. Yes, one size fits all.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Yeah, but see if you can get a SH-775 (Shindengen series type) off a Polaris dealer- they might still be under $100.

Steve were you ever able to take any measurements on the sh-775?

Thanks for the help, guys. It would have taken me forever to find this information on my own and I probably would have ended up spending double. I went with the r/r and connectors that Steve linked.

Unrelated question: When I replace my stator are there any gaskets or anything else that need to be replaced? I see there is a gasket between the side case and the engine, but can I just reuse this since it isn't currently leaking? Also, do I need to put any RTV or anything else between the stator and side case for this install? I know that one fault of the stator is when is shorts out to the case so I was curious if there was anything that needs to be between that mating surface.

I think Steve is holding out on this info!
Under $70 for a sh-775 ? wow, I might hit my beer budget for one.

To steamroller; the stator gasket will likely be destroyed during removal- just get a new one < $15 and avoid RTV goop. Clean the mating surfaces exquisitely- this will be the longest part of job. might want to get new allen headed fasteners

Thanks for the link, BassCliff. Lol at "some guy".

Looks like I will get that gasket then.

Make sure to get the OEM gasket The thin crappy gaskets work, but the starter may drag due to clearance issues..

I already ordered a Rick's gasket. Are these alright or have others had bad luck with these?

Have not ordered one in yet.

Too many things happening here, including a new job that started today.
Fortunately it included a decent pay raise, so parts may be flowing soon. :D

Hi,

Pics were fine though the text went bonkers.

I tested the file, it looks good. Feel free to download the file and view it with a PDF viewer instead of using the plug-in viewer in your browser. Do a 'right-click' and 'Save as...' and save it to your hard drive. Then you can view it off line, print it, share it, use it as a dart board cover, etc. ;)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
