A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

well if he did all the cleaning like he said he did, than thats a good set of carbs...

if you dont win them, i will have a set from a 77 gs750 for sale in the next couple weeks.....

Looks like crud on the bottom of the float bowl based on the photos. Any carbs you get off ebay need to be broken down and verified as clean and having soft fresh o-rings installed.

My fiirst concern...

My fiirst concern...

Is in looking at the photo I see all of the main jets are set different. As I understand it, there is no good reason for that execept for crud and bad placement. I'd look into purchasing something from oldbikebarn.com, or perhaps here: http://www.babbittsonline.com/ .

Good luck.

You know, the only difference between you present carb and those would be replacing rubber parts, deep cleaning every part and that you know your carb inside and out in detail from cleaning and rebuilding. Search for "rebuild" on this site. Some had a detailed line to how to do the rebuild. This guided me on how to do this on a GR model, a rare cousin of the GS...

HAS NOTHING TO DO with crud You need to tune them to your bike

Those carbs look fine. expect to pay $50-100.. ANYTHING you buy on Ebay -- Plan on a good cleaning.. just makes good sense

eBay carbs

eBay carbs

When I got my GS1100EZ it had no carbs at all. I found a set for cheep on eBay and bought it. It had some parts missing. Got a nice rebate and kept the carbs. The second set I bought had a broken eaz-out in one of the pilot screws and it had been rejetted. ( it was sold for parts only) The third set was so crudded up that I almost gave up, but it cleaned up well and it works fine. Total investment for me was less that 100 bucks for the three so I got out ok on the deal. I will have a spare set to sell or keep. Moral of the story is you cannot depend upon the sellers to know what they are selling all the time. Two of my three came from non bikers. Clueless dudes.
Good Luck!
Lee :)

so babbittsonline sells complete carbs?
No. And if you buy a set for a different bike, that you need to put on your 1000, DO NOT throw ANYTHING from the ones you have away. You'll need to change the choke actuator arm out, and the backing plate and a coupel other things. They ARE NOT the exact same. the carb bodies will be, but the rack itself is different. If you dont want to have to change a bunch of OTHER stuff on the bike, you'll have to change the racks.

Honestly tho, give them a good cleaning. If i were to buy a set of carbs that i even had a question about, i would clean them. Period.

Don't know about those specifically, but some carbs are still available NOS... at like $800 a set.

I may be wrong, but i doubt VM26SSs are still available, as they havent been on a bike since 79. Could be wrong tho, maybe they still use them on sno sleds or something.
