    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How do you know if theres gas in your oil?

I've heard this a lot, and I know the causes for when it happens, but how do you KNOW it's happened? I came out to the bike to find that the tank was empty. Now, it's perfectly feasible that, especially because I'm just in testing phases, I had only put in a very small amount a while back and it just happened to run out when I got home. But it's also possible it drained through the carbs and into the case. So how do you know?
 
Take off the oil filler cap if there is petrol in there you can tell by the smell, also check to see if your oil level has risen.
 
loosen the drain plug on the sump so that just a couple of threads are holding it in. Gas will collect in the bottom of the sump and the oil will float above. the gas will follow the threads out and drip from the plug before oil will seep out
 
if it's all mixed in there, (say, after running the engine for a bit), pull out the dip stick and give'er a taste (just a little one). the gasoline and engine oil are pretty different in flavour. if they are mixed, then you should be able to tell by compairing to the stuff in the bottle.

What do you eat for breakfast? A bowl of bolts covered in oil? ;-)

That's like the time I was working under my engine and got a mouth full of anti-freeze. Needless to say it has a minty taste to it.:-D
 
Two other ways to check for leaking gasoline. If you believe the leak was recent, as in last day or so, pull the sparkplugs and give the motor a spin. In my case, the gas would spurt out of the sparkplug hole. Also check the rubber boots on both sides of carb. I found that I would get gas into my air filter area.
I like the taste test, just about as good as the flame test where you hold a lit match over the oil fill...not!!
