If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How fast is is your old GS?

I've been up to about 110 on mine. I was extremely impressed with how stable it was, considering that aside from the handlebars, throttle cable, carb o-rings, filters and tires, everything is stock and original on her. I was completely confident at that speed. No wobbles or "skittish-ness."

115+ on the 83 550ES. I need to reconfirm the top speed on the 80. I think I run out of revs before running out of horsepower.

Over the ton, about 10 times so far. Not holding him there too long, I want him to last me awhile! Mebbe I hit 105. I'm guessing 115 if I lay down on him like I used to do on my old Yamaha 305, which also would break 100.

Gustav (that's his new name) settles down nicely, solid as a rock up to about 95, then gets a little skittish, but not scary-like.

1977 GS 400X - stock.
Rebuilt carbs & glued torn diaghpragm (new carbs coming - woohoo!)
New Montec chain
New head bearings
New rubber & tubes & balanced wheels
Battery, replaced handlebars, flushed out engine & changed oil about 4 times, adjusted valve clearances, replaced fork oil 2X & added 1" compression spacers, disassembled & cleaned front & rear hubs, aligned forks, re-torqued head bolts, fixed a bunch of stuff original owner had munged (shock mounts).

Polished cases, all new SS xcase bolts.

The list goes on, but basically it's stock. I plan to get the Suzuki oval clamp on air filters & then re-jet, but after that, a lot of souping up just isn;t worth it on a 400.

Still Gus is a trooper, and handles badass - I've scraped the centerstand about 4 times now - think it's coming off!

I'll get a picture up soon. Not that anybody cares about a lowly GS400. But I like 'im.

(edit)P.S. Also a new Electrex RR I got on EBay for $26. THANK YOU, GSResources! (/edit)

good for 200km

good for 200km

I've taken it to 180km still had some go, so i would say it's good for 200.

GS 750E

130 mph with throttle to spare. Had to ride next to a SV650 to get this reading since my pos speedo goes up to 85 mph.

You can use your tachto make fairly accurate measurements. Take several speedo readings at different rpm's in 5th gear. That will allow you to figure out how many rpm per mph. Then when you go for a flying run, note what rpm you reach. You can then do the math based on rpm to figure out speed.

My 850 engine will pull a good 8500- 8600rpm-atleast in 5th gear. Honestly I dont watch the tach much after 8000rpm in fifth. Over 8k- the ole GS is really covering some ground.
Im looking forward to enjoying a 1000 engine in that bike soon.
Those 1100 and 1150 Es, Ss, must really be a thrill with the 20+ year old suspension.

1982 Gs650gl

I've been up to 125 but it took a mile and a half. :) I had a few thousand more RPM but my suspension is 24 years old and bottoms out if a passenger is on it so I got smart when I saw the potholes coming... I am adding some rear suspension and replacing the fork seals next week then I'll get back to you with a new test. The power of the 650 in 5th gear to pull is sickening..I thought it would be a dog once you got there but 5th will pull your brains out...anyone got recommendations for some good aftermarket suspension?

A few mods and 150 mph at about a mile or so. Clocked by a buddies Honda crotch rocket. Scary ride, but had to see what she would do. I love this bike and myself for that matter and will never do something that stupid again.
Sure was a rush though, just happy to still be around to talk about it.

Even with the odd quirks of the 1100ed, I've cracked 130, then stood still as my buddy on his Hayabusa went past. My 750tz (sold for the 1100) got up to around 110 mark but that's going by the Hayabusa's speedo.

Personnaly I prefer to use the power to get away from the cages (why is it that Pontiac drivers challenge the most???) and then enjoy the scenery.:-D

I did 170kmh on my '83 400e when I was 16, that was in 6th at red line (9500rpm) It get's windy with no faring.
Not bad for a little bike.

I am going to run both my bikes this weekend at Street Vibrations on the dyno drag machine. It won't show top speed, but will give me 1/4 mile time and speed, and horsepower at the rear wheel. Cool! I'm curious to see how the bikes do at this altitude (5000 ft.).

I have pushed 150mpyh on mine then my buddy flew by me on his 02 yamaha r1.

How QUICK is your GS?

How QUICK is your GS?

Top speed is cool and all, but anyone have any timeslips from the track they want to share? 1/4 mile - 1/8 mile - it's all good.
:)

I ran 13.2 @ 99mph @ Atco Raceway, Atco NJ.
The clutch on my bike slips at high RPMs, so I can't launch hard and I can't shift fast. Once I get it fixed, I'm headed back to grab some better slips.
:)

1979 GS1000 - stock except for, possibly, a 42-tooth rear sprocket

Hey baelzbub let me know when you head down to Atco, I am only an hour away. I've never taken my bike to the track to see how fast I can get the bike down the 1/4.
