How fast is is your old GS?

According to my speedo, I've never broken 85. :( I have had it up to near 8.5k or so in fifth, with stock gearing. However fast that might be. :D

It's soooo fast when I get off her, I look like that guy on the extenz  comericial..... LOL Had her up to 125-30+ and real stable at speed.

At the 1/4 mile strip
Ran only three times
Best time 12.696 105.09 Not bad for a $75.00 bike (ok ok about a $500 bike now)
In fact I think I'm going to go for a ride.... Vroom Vroom.

I've had mine up to 100 mph. Didn't want to go any faster, really didn't want to go that fast either but it's surprisingly stable and you don't really notice the speed untill you look at the speedo.

Way fast GS1150E

Way fast GS1150E

Yesterday my drag racing partner rode my newest acquisition, a 1986 GS1150E. The bike has a big block upgrade (exact size unknown. We are going to "pump" the motor to determine the displacement), 38mm Mikuni RS` carbs, stock "looking" exhaust and god only knows what inside for cams and headwork. He did a light burnout and launched it at about 2,500 rpm. It literally smoked the rear tire through 1-2-3& 4th. At 120 mph in fourth it decided to hook-up and immediately stood straight up. He rode the wheelie out and proceeded to run it up to 155 and still had motor left but ran out of road. We will test it fully at the track on April 17th. All this from a stock appearing, very smooth and relatively quiet streetable bike. He said the only thing comparable that he has ridden is his Hyabusa.

My 1100ES hit an indicated 125 on I75 southbound today... was still pulling with lots of wrist and tach left when I ran out of the fresh tarmac they've laid down and back onto the frost heaved, grated trash with orange barrels everywhere.. those new 36mm carbies are FUUUN :D Cant wait to drop the cams in and get em degreed.. Sssssh Dont tell Rose!!;)

OMG!!!!
how big was that fish again:rolleyes:
man i wish you got a picture of that fish before it broke the line:eek:
maybe rapidray can help me debunk some of these urban legends here:evil:

Blower Bike and Rapid Ray can kiss my grits. I'm way too old and secure in who I am and what I own to have to make up "Fish Stories". However, I am pleased that I could provide you with a laugh.

hmmmmm,
i was talking about TCK...LOL

i will leave it at that.

What?? Dont believe me? I didnt say i was on level ground ;) :D

It's not always about hp, it is the biggest contributing factor though. Switching from bias plies to radials will result in less rolling resistance. My bike has shed 40-50 lbs, power to weight ratio is another factor. Pushing less weight around gives you a chance to gear the bike for more top speed.

Sounds like I should get to know you better. Not many good builders left around. I'll report how the old GS performed on track after the first test and tune on April 17th. HMMMMM?? Maybe I do get a little carried away, just youthful enthusiasm sneaking through. Hope i never lose that.

Have a Happy Healthy Easter ALL .

Horsepower is needed to overcome aerodynamic drag, which is the largest limiting factor at those speeds (as I understand it), as drag increases with the square of speed. Taller gearing will yield higher top speed, assuming the bike already has the hp to pull redline in top gear (i.e. top speed is gear limited, not drag limited). Having said that, an 1100 should be able to achieve 125 mph on level road....not sure why that is so hard to believe?
Tony.

SHHHHHHHHH,
i was poking fun at a different post and just mentioned the TCK post to throw off the original poster:cool:
ive seen 120 ish+ or - in 1320' on a stock ish 83 1100E so i'm sure the top is around 140+ or- with your helmet on the gauges.

And?

And?

And your arse suctioned to the seat?

Ok. Somewhere up above these posts I told of the performance of my 1986 GS1150E with a "Built Motor". We dyno'd it today and it produced 116.5 HP and 172 Ft Lbs of torque. I know those torque numbers seem impossible ( at least to me) but the Dyno Operator is experienced and does a lot of Suzuki GSXR's and Hayabusa's. No wonder it is a wheelie monster.

With all due respect, the hp number is certainly believable....I'm not sure what's up with that torque figure, esp. since the stock engine puts out about 80-ish max....a 100% increase, without any forced induction doesn't seem possible, esp. with a 116 peak hp figure. Any chance you could post the print out, so we can take a look at the curves? Again, NOT calling you a liar or anything, I hope you understand.:)
Tony.
