A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How fast is is your old GS?

I have had my gs1150 up to 110 mph (180 kph) and that was a month before I found my broken swingarm!!!

I once took my '78 GS1000E out when it was new, just broken in back in '79, I got an indicated 145 mph, but those speedometers were way off,
I might have been going 135 at best. Bike sure does get light at those speeds, when I slowed down to 85 it seemed so slow, like I put get off
of it and push it faster. I haven't tried that since, and I have ridden
sustained speeds of 90-110 for up to an hour or so driving cross country.
I don't do that anymore either. Now 70 seems too fast for me.

I think the dyno run was done in the wrong gear. 113 hp, 170 ftlb sounds about right for 3k math wise. (at 5250 rpm they will be the same, higher rpm=higher hp than tq). I'm guessing the bike was just in 2 or 3 gears less than he thought.

remember, HP is constant. torque and speed are interchangeable with gearing. 113 hp = 170 ftlb@50mph = 50 ftlb@150 mph.

My 450's seen 75 with my fiancee riding 2nd with power to spare (trying to keep up with the rest of a group of friends).
Never on the open road of course.

Fastest I've had my 650G was 90mph and keepin pace w/ my buddies (82 750 Maxum & 09 Harley fatbob).

How fast?

How fast?

well i had me Gs1085 on a dyno this morning and it pulls 140MPH on there ok.

I picked up a street race with a 2005 gsxr 750, we just rolled full throttle after a stop light on a long straight away with no side streets,we were a equal distance apart till my bike started to sway at about 160ish, my bike was a 82 gs1100e with a 86 gsxr1100 motor and 88 gsxr front end

Back in my 20's I did 125 MPH on a 79' GS750E. I don't know if I would even dare these days, but you never know. I just bought my most recent GS, and you need to let it breathe a bit, don't ya?;)

I had my mo-ped pegged at 204mph once! And that was with my bitch dog Shi-tzu riding up front in the handle bar basket! I was pickin' bugs outta' her teeth for a week after that!

145 ish on the 1100E and it still had more. GS550E topped out around 120-125, 750E don't know yet, it's not finished.

Nice bike ; did you do any bracing? Is the 1052cc stock?

Also sounds like an interesting race. The 1052 must have more torque than the GSXR 750, but with the GSXR full fairing once you hit 100 mph the advantage would be gone.

I got busted in 1983 on my first '82 GS1100EZ for doing 149 in a 40 while on one wheel flying down NAVY rd in Millington Tennessee I had the rest of fourth and all of fifth to go.
I don't have a clue as to the top speed of the bike but in 82 I pulled it up at 120mph and sped off from a friend who was in a car, finally backed off the throttle when the helmet I was wearing began choking me due to the pressure from the speed, don't know how fast I was going because the speedo stops at 85.

Top speed of an '82 1100 was 141 mph. That's with a 150 lb Japanese test rider on it, at sea level. Top speed in 4th at redline is 120 mph ;)
