A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How fast is is your old GS?

Top speed of an '82 1100 was 141 mph. That's with a 150 lb Japanese test rider on it, at sea level. Top speed in 4th at redline is 120 mph ;)

All I know is the cop told me that his radar showed that I was doing 149, in fact the only reason he let me go was because I stopped when I saw him, I actually pulled over and waited for him to come and get me.

And just for the record, when this ocurred I weighed 131 lbs. now I look like a balloon and weigh in at 210 lbs.:D

I know my '82 GS1100E does 85 at least, because that's what the highest reading of the speedometer is, probably good because it keeps me from trying to top it out, a kind of "why bother." I had a '78 Skunk that I got a 140 reading on when I topped it out, but that speedometer had so much
error in it, I was lucky if I was doing 130. That was when I was so much
younger, 70 seems pretty fast to me now, at least at a sustained speed.

Old GSs Go Not Bad

Old GSs Go Not Bad

Had some GS 1000 s back when they came out. One with a wiseco kit ,andrews cams 29 smoothbores, ported head. I think it was the super ?? street kit? Put in Valve springs the oil pump gear mod (the 750 s) also crank welded. On our Highway one day coming from Toronto to Guelph Line saw 12,600 rpm on tachometer. It probably wasnt accurate BUT they never really are. I did give a quick glance downwards and saw the speedo needle at the m in the MPH logo on the dial. I had the 240 kph speedo and I think I was going faster than that that day due to being in a bit of a run with one of those wooden bumpered OPP cruisers which i left behind a ways. Back then we all drove funny. Now just track stuff no street riding. Im too dumb for street driving.

fast enough to get a $330 fine after getting the valves adjusted and having flash backs to the 70's

sometimes my Garmin Etrex Legend will say I'm going 180 mph, usually when going under a bridge or something. I don't think my 450 could hit that speed even if I rode it off a cliff.

After a recent race meeting I heard a Ducati 851 owner bragging in the bar about seeing 230kph on his speedo at the end of the front straight.
I jumped in and asked politely - was that just before our GS1000 passed you ?
Reduced him to spluttering noises into his beer....grins all round.

I've spun the old GS850 up to 115mph with a touch more to go, I think. At this age, of the bike, I don't need to be going that fast anyway.

110mph in November @ 28 degrees in upstate NY, had more throttle, but was waaaay too cold!:eek:
