A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How fast is is your old GS?

83 gs1100gl bone stock. 110mph with plenty left on the throttle, was tucked in good as I could get but had to let off b/c helmet was coming off.

Broke 120mph on a tuned 74 RD400 (more than half of that on one wheel hehe), but it all happened so quickly I got spooked and backed off. Followed quickly with an underwear change.

In 1984 on my new 83 750e with 4 into 1 yosh pipe with half the pipe dropped I did a 11.81 at 113mph! I was 18 at the time. Now I get scared at anything past 85!:)

Last summer I managed between 110-115mph on my 81 650L. I figure there's a rounding error. I used gps at 50 and 60 with rpm ranges in 5th and 4th years. Forget the end rpm, jus remember the final speed result.
This is with the biggest screen I could find for my bike, think its the enterprise.

I also got a ticket for going 65 in a 55 zone because the road sign was covered.... But that's a different story.

My 34 year old GS750 DB Will only reach 100mph flat out across the tank whilst farting at the same time, however i am 16 stone in weight and i know that i have low compression on on 3rd cylinder. I am just waiting for good weather to check the valve clearances. Dont want to push the old girl much faster!

My 1980 GS1100E once showed an indicated red line in 5th, however fast that is, 135?

My 919 indicated 150+ once, I'm pretty sure it was actually closer to 140

Current FJ1200 has indicated 135+ (easily I might add) and I'm too old to want to go any faster and I'm going to say that was "really" probably closer to 200MPH, just for fun!

The BKing still had a lot more to give as well. I rode one once, too bad I'm tall and my legs hit the tank, it is a machine everyone should experience at least once.

2nd generation Vmax is another, holy **** that is a incredible ride!

If my '85 GSA 450, with velorex sidecar, hit 60 mph, I must be going downhill with a tailwind. 55 was the avg tops. Fast enough for me.

Don't know how fast my old girl will go, her spedo stops at 85, cop said I was doin 87 following an 83 550 es up hill. He was flat out. Did 136 corrected speed on my 919 once with plenty left.

yesterday I topped out on my speedo (85) but still pulling faster and had plenty of RPM left in 5th gear. I say I was doing close to 95mph for a good stretch of straight slab highway...2 up! Pretty smooth in that range If I do say so.

Bike looks like she is doing 85 sitting still! Love the bright work on the engine. Its so slick looking I'm sure you reduced your drag with it and gained a couple of mph because of it. How did you get it so nice and shiney? Highly polished aluminum? Chrome? Looks great!

I have a 79 850L. At the local speedway they often have days where you can pay to take your car/motorcyle/whatever and run. I think you pay per lap. I plan on paying for a couple of spins around just to try.

I have buried the 85 mph needle on the 550L...and then some . According to the amount of acceleration I felt after topping out needle I am sure I hit 90-95 mph. Very smooth too, but that light bike is dangerous at high speeds. No death wobble but light wind or road variations give it a good shake and it just does not have the mass to stay tight and strait. 49 HORSEPOWER BABY!

I buried my 82 GS550L's 85mph speedo last night, Surely wasn't a land speed record but I'm sure I hit 100mph, the tach only had 1k rpm before red line. It pulled very hard, but the bike was ridiculously wobbly (Vermont roads suck). Backed it off at 9k rpm in 6th. Not sure where that puts me in MPH... High end has went up some after the re-jet and Dyna S...
