    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

how to degree cams with shim valve adjustement?

I need to degree the cams on my gs1000-1100 2V engine or at least to verify if i'm still in specs.
The head was resurfaced ,the deck milled and a MLS head gasket was installed.
Do I need to set the valve clearance at the suzuki spec or at 0?
Can I install the dial indicator tip on the shim bucket?
I have never done this on a shim type head and I cannot remember last time with a rocker head.

The deck was milled to match the 1000 deck height and the head not more than a licking. the biggest difference is going from an OEM fiber head gasket to a thinner MLS head gasket.Engine consist of a gs1000 bottom end with 1100gk cylinders and head.

You can do it at running clearance. The important figure is the lobe center degrees which is independent of clearance in the bucket and shim motors.
Set the DTI on the edge of a bucket and take the opening and closing figures at either .040in lift or .050in. No real difference, just personal preference.
The important thing is a stiff DTI mounting for repeatable results.
Do you know what figures you want ?
 
Everything is suzuki parts, no aftermarket on this one except for 29mm Mikuni flatslide.I just want a good street engine.

Stock timing or maybe advance the intake a little for more low torque.With the tinner head gasket the cam will advance a little?
Think of a GK engine in a gs1000 frame.

Well, standard timing appears to vary a little according to market and model.
My personal favorite timing for the 2V 1000 is 107 deg inlet lobe center, 109 deg exhaust. Others have different figures but those will give you a good midrange motor.
The bigger motor can probably carry wider lobe centers - say 110/110. Your choice.
 
I will install the camshafts today and look what numbers I may have with not slotted sprocket.I will work from there.

With my yoshi .374 inlet I have 107 deg and .354 ex I have 109 deg with APE valve springs, flowed and polished head 1085cc wiseco kit and 33mm mikuni smooth-bores. After much reading and info from other forum members I felt these figures would give me what I want. If I'm not happy with the results I will re adjust and try again because if you have slotted cams you can make the necessary improvements with the engine in the frame with out too great a problem.
 
Camshafts are installed and valves adjusted.I will make a base for the dial indicator.
The factory mark seem to be where they need to.
