A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How to polish engine case on my GS

Cool, I'll probably experiment with that. I would think that the micro-fiber cloth would get pretty clogged with residue after a while necessitating changing every so often.

Oh for sure, notice at the end he showed the loaded up pad and said he was going to change it and polish more metal. The whole key to his design is the assembly tape. What he hasn't caught onto yet is that purple assembly tape is more bad ass than silver assembly tape, which is surprising since he knows how bad ass the green and blue zip ties are.

Seriously, when you get everything polished, and if you intend to keep it BARE, and especially if they ever salt your roads- be sure to rinse the bike off after a ride!

Bare aluminum corrodes overnight, ime....I've been experimenting with "Fluid-film" sprayed on a rag and thickly applied....it helps, but needs recoats

I'm going to check out Nessism's tip
....Followed with POR-15 Glisten clear.
,myself. It's got to be better fixing it than re-sanding the aluminum....

No sanding, no stripping, no chemicals. Just the sewn polishing wheel in my 4" grinder, and both green, and white sticks.

Before...

After...

And you might as well order some new badges (??? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKING BADGES ! ! !) (sorry, it always does that...)

How does one clean the Cases! Not the covers. Crankcase, cylinder, head without disassembly or soda blasting?

I have my clutch cover off now and want to do this while I have it off. Do you remove the oil level lens before using the stripper, or just mask it off?

One other question. Will I likely need a new gasket once I take the clutch cover off? Have done all the other pieces but have yet to polish this one

I wouldn’t try to remove the lens, just tape it off well with a couple layers of good tape.

And I’ve personally reused clutch cover gaskets before, if they’re in good shape, but they aren’t expensive to replace… less than the oil you might potentially drain and replace if you reuse and then have a leaky gasket.

Then again, if you’re careful and have the means to do so, you could tip the bike over on the right side so all the oil drains to the stator side and swap out a leaky gasket and not need to drain the oil from the pan too.
