    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

how to sync

Does anyone know of a site, or feel like explaining how to sync the carbs? I searched and couldn't find anything. It seems when I find anything on it, it just says "Syncronize carbs" or "hook up a syncronizer and ajust carbs" Nothing on how to do it. I have not purchased a syncronizer yet, but I will need one over the winter.

To sync them you need to remove the tank and set it on the seat backwards or use a remote tank like this one. Be sure the engine is good and warm at this point. Reattach the opposite petcocks to fuel hoses. put it on prime and attach the hoses of the carb stix to the nipples on the head's intake manifold. These nipples on the outboard cylinders go to the small hoses on the petcock (if it's a vacuum petcock) and the inner cylinders have a cap on them usually. Remove the caps but do not forget to reattach it when you are done. Air cooled bikes benefit by putting a fan in front of the engine.

With it set up now start the engine and DO NOT EVER rev the engine using the mercury stix or the mercury may get sucked into the intake of the engine. For this reason we like the guage style tools. But it is ok till about 2,000 rpms. You will see what happens when you start the engine.

Now with the engine idling at 1000 rpms or so you will see that each cylinder is pulling inches of mercury according to the gauge on the stix. You need to get all cylinders the same. Adjust the screw between #1 & #2 cylinder to balance those 2 and the same with the screw between #3 & #4 to balance those 2 as well, then the inner set, and so on. When you are done and they are balanced check idle and drop or raise it back to 1000 rpms. Notice how quiet it is inside the right crankcase cover now. Smooth as silk. This smoothed out the jerky tension the crank was putting on the clutch from the engines unbalance.

Now I need to go home and look at the bike, but I don't remember it having nipples..... hmmmm I'll look again
 
Where did you search? If you search this site you will find extensive information on syncing carbs.

The nipples you need will usually come with the sync instrument you buy. Whether you use a mercury sync stick (common), or a digital type (expensive), or one of the economy style available on ebay is up to you. Procedures are generally the same. But you should refer to the manual for your bike for specifics.
