A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

HT Leads (Ignition Wires)

The NGK boots are excellent quality, I recommend you go that way along with the non supression core wire.

BTW Salty-Monk, I'm your neighbor since I live in Torrance. It's nice to learn that there are other GS folks in the area.

Cool, know Torrance well. What model do you ride? I'll look out for you!

The plot thickens with my plugs, I took a better look yesterday after a ride & it seems that is has NGK BPR7ES fitted.....

From the info on Z1's site that's a hotter plug with a resistor in it... weird. Maybe it was fouling at some point or maybe that was all he could get....

Anyone think of any reason why I shouldn't go back to an 8?

If I get a resistor plug do I still need the resistor Caps?

Who knew plugs & leads were so complicated :D

I would say they were all the PO could get. Yes you do need resistor caps. No you dont need resistor plugs. How do the plugs "read" a little dark? maybe why a hotter plug was fitted. A little light you should go back to an "8".

Dink

I'll have a read of a plug later today, thanks for all the help, it'll all get ordered on Monday & swapped over sometime soon...

hows it holding up?

hows it holding up?

old thread, but given that this is a current topic of conversation, how did the new wires in the old coil switcheroo work out? any others do this with success, cause my wires are cracked and bleeding and need replacement too...

greg

3 of them came out fine.... 1 of them was stuck fast & appeared to have been glued in place (perhaps a previous owner had tried it before). It snapped & was impossible to remove.

My advice is to try it & see what happens but be prepared to get a new set of coils in case it goes wrong like mine did.

I've heard the success rate is about 50%.

why not use suppression wires?

Suppression wires will work but I think you should use non resistor caps in that case. The hard caps, as made by NGK and the stockers, are nice since they seal well and are easy to fit down on the plugs. No major deal either way you go.

I did use suppression wires without resistor caps. They are the dyna ones from Z1. Work fine.
