A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I hate helmets

I always wear a helmet but don't believe the government should be telling me I have to. One thing that seems odd to me is that some don't wear helmets around town because they feel there is less risk because of low speeds but consider that when seated on a bike your head is approximately 5 feet off the pavement and if you fell striking your head from that height it can easily kill you........ it has happened.

Anyone who wears a hard hat at work (by mandate or by choice) knows you don't have to be riding a motorcycle to get hit REALLY hard in the head. I've retired two or three hard hats that have saved my skull, either thru my error or someone else's.

ATGATT

I rode my Bandit yesterday with only a stocking cap, sneakers and paper thin jeans and I didn't die or get hurt. It actually felt good feeling the air, able to see more peripherally, and to hear stuff like how the engine noise really sounds....but my face got cold after a few miles, my ears ached from the wind rushing noise and cold, my eyes watered up behind my prescription glasses, and I was afraid to turn my head too far and loose them....I'll stay with a full face helmet and recommend others do so too. Oh, yeah, safety is a concern too if another dog runs out at me like while on the GS450 ride yesterday!

Here's my "busted helmet, not head" picture:

I have been using helmets since the sixties and have many reasons to continue wearing one. Here's one example: when I was headed to Colorado from Missouri, one time on I-70, near Colby KS., a large crow bounced off my helmet, it hit me right above the shield.I thought I was gonna lose it, but with no helmet I just would have been dead.

That was in '79, and I have had my head and eyesight saved many times since then.

I grew up in Illnois and like many didn't wear helmet in town, and thats wear a person should with all the traffic!!

Last time I rode to Illnois I didn't wear one on old highway about 60 miles...no traffic.

But I wear one most all the time, maybe not always full face.

If on cruiser I wear half, on gs or any sprtbike full face.

But I always preach full face helmets to everyone!!

I love my helmet. It is metallic blue. it keeps the rain off my head and gives me awesome helmet hair.
Ladies LOVE helmet hair.
My old helmet was metallic blue also. It kept the pavement and gravel off my skull, and the filling in the donut. Currently it is in a box awaiting shipment to Arai for scanning.

Edit- the new helmet also came with a yellow pinlock, which is amazing in the PNW rain. No fog. More contrast.

I'm guilty, I love ridding without a helmet. Earlier this year I made a venture over to NH on my old (now Lurch's) B-12 and rode most of the time helmet-less. Just an awesome feeling ridding with just the ridding glasses on. Hair was much longer then so it was nice to feel the wind go through it. I'll still break out a bike for a test run without a helmet and take it a couple miles. But in the back of my head I realize I should wear a helmet all the time.. And in VT I do whenever I go on high traffic roads

Helmets, Argh

Helmets, Argh

When I was a young lad in Dallas one day I left home on my very cool X6 Hustler to head down to the hardware store. it was only going to be a couple of miles and thought about not wearing my gear, the only reason I did was because my helmet was sitting on the seat of the bike and I had to move it to get on.

Five minuites later as I'm going through he intersection at Inwood Rd. and Lovers Lane and a gal in a Camaro makes a left turn in front of me. I ran out of room and ideas all at the same time. Next thing I remember is lying on my back with three firemen looking down at me in the parking lot of a dry cleaner some 60 ft. from the point of contact. evidently when I hit her it pole vaulted me over her car and the pick up right behind her, cleared them both and landed flat on my back in the parking lot out cold.

Result was a ruined helmet, mild concussion and a broken watch band. I realized that I had help with that one and never tempted fate again. I always ride with ATGATT..
