I just got a set of sling shot 38mm carbs. Well thats what im told they are. Whats the run down on installing these on a g model 1000?

Not sure but thinking you better plan on some major mods internally to run them.the 36's from an 1150 may be a better choice with out to many mods

Tried this out about 15 years ago ...... from memory (and not too good a memory - I "inhaled" a lot back then)

youll need z1000J inlet rubbers and a lot of patience

tne bike ran like sh1t on them and after endless tweaking I gave up and put some 29's on it

No, for now its stock except for a 4 to 1.
Near future plans gs750 cams
D port head
And jetting to match
Its got the stock cv34 and runs great but when i do those mods id like a little more carb

I would consider a big bore like around 1150ish if i could daily ride it in florida heat
I see ape has a 75mm big bore kit wich says 1146cc at 10.5 cr id like that but that cr is on the edge of 93 octane is it not. Thats besides the point though.

Save the carbs for a 16V BB motor

Having recently installed a 92 GSXR 1127 engine, these are the OEM carbs for that bike. High lift cams, 4 valve heads, top end performance.

Will those fit into your 1000 boots?
You can probably sell those 38's or trade them for 36's "SlingShot" carbs and still have a few bucks to spare.

Havent tried yet.
These were free because all the jets and floats have been removed for other things but the rest is all there slides, top caps, the rails the hold them together. I was just thinking about building them for my bike. Dont know what they'd be worth though. They are in really good shape no corrosion or physical damage and the diaphragms are in good shape too

The sliders are ceramic and short of a hammer do not wear. The inserts are usually wear as they are no match for the slides. The insert wear starts the emulsion tubes to wear and it is all downhill from there.

Minimum to rebuild is new inserts and new emulsion tubes with new needles, and of course proper jets for your application, which for a 8V 1000g is not even applicable as they are too big.

Been told that the 36mm carbs you cant buy the inserts, so maybe the 38's are in the same boat. You can always get them made i suppose. Mite be easier to just go and buy a 1100GK with the D shape heads and sort that out .........

I am in process right now of redoing the top end of my 78 Gs1000"Roadkill"
I have a set of 1100 cylinders (stock bore 8000 mile block) , installing new rings ,
Yousimura cam set ( don't remember the lift)
83 GK d port head with new valves ,seats , and guides , springs
and a set of CV 36 mm carbs from stock 1150.
Going to try and use stock type air box but if I can' t I will be designing something that will work and let it breath.
I love having access to a dyno to help figure these things out
The exhaust is a custom free flowing 2 into 2 2"" exhaust. Not sure how all this is going to play out but I will be able to tell you when it is done
