DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi, I'm a newcomer to GS Resources. This looks like a very active board with lots of helpful members!

Can anyone supply me with a scanned image of a 1980 or 1981 GS550T, GS550L, or GS550X wiring diagram? My thanks in advance for your time and assistance.

I don't have a scanner but the Clymer 550 manual is still available and has a good wiring diagram for most models including the 80 models.

Steven,

I have a diagram of a 1978/79 GS550. The type with the breaker points.
Don't suppose there are much other differences. If you're interested, just send me an email and I'll send it over.

jojo, thanks for the offer, but I'm specifically interested in the wiring of the CDI box and the solid state signal generator. I guess I'll go look for a manual at the local bike shops.

Hey Merry Christmas. I'm away from my manual until Jan 2, but I have a manual for a 1981 GS550. It has the CDI and pickup coils wiring. If you're having problems with it let me know. I bought by bike with no start and it turned out to be the CDI that was the problem - they're very expensive. I ended up installing points and condensers and it worked great. A dyna S is another alternative. If you want details let me know.

Thanks Craig. I am doing a hack motor swap on my 1980 GS 250T and installing a 1981 GS 550 (4 valve) motor. With the help of my new Lincoln Sp 135 + Mig, it won't be a big deal making the 550 bolt up to the 250 frame. The GS 250 and GS 550 use the same CDI, if you can believe it, and I had the 250 running before, so the CDI I have should be fine. If not, I pick them up for $10 apiece on ebay. New those things are like $350! I think I will be able to figure out the wiring of the CDI and the signal generator since I have a complete factory shop manual for the 250. I'll let you know if I have any questions. Thanks a lot for your help!

Steve
