A little bit of history of the bike 1982 GSX 1100EZ I bought it approx 16 months ago. Really don't know how many previous owners it has had and although the bike looks quite straight and original you can tell that's it been ridden most of it's life. The speedo read 13,695km (8,509 miles) when i got it and since then i have put a further 9,000km (5,592 miles) on it. I would suspect that the speedo has been around the clock once so it's likely that the bike had done 113,695km when i purchased it.

The bike went quite well from the start with only a few things needing attention. The main things were the bike has a leaking head gasket it's not too bad and hasn't caused any real dramas although i know it's something that will need fixing one day. I know it's the gasket as i have looked at everything else ie rubber o rings, washers etc around head bolts , torquing of head bolts which by the way were a little loose. The other issue was i replaced the valve cover gasket as it was leaking slightly and also replaced the engine breather gasket (used suzuki parts).

I fitted the breather gasket as per instructions and when i took it for a ride it started pouring oil out from the breather tube at bottom of the airbox. I posted a question on this site and got some replies most were either too much engine oil , Blow By or gasket on wrong way. Changed gasket around which changed the position of the holes in the cover and the oil stopped coming out of the engine breather.

Moving forward to today, 16 months and 9,000 km further down the track i have noticed that oil is again pouring out of the breather tube at the bottom of the air box. I took it for a ride and so much oil came out the breather tube that it covered the back of my pipe and went all over the rear disc brake.

I guessed it had to be coming from the top of the valve cover so i attached a piece of clear plastic tube and went for a ride. I rode for 36km (22miles) at highway speeds 100 to 110 kph (65 to 70mph) and sure enough oil is coming out of the breather vent in quite large volumes.

In the two videos the first one is when i pulled over at the halfway mark (18km) you can see just how much oil has come out. I left that oil in the tube thinking that whatever came out on the way home would stay in the pipe, but i was wrong. The second video is when i got back home , i thought all the oil would have stayed in the pipe but as you can see by the seat i lost quite a bit more then what shows in the pipe.

In hindsight probably not the best way to have tested things but it sure gave me an indication of just how much oil is coming out from that engine breather on top of the valve cover. Once home i did a compression test and they were Cyl 1 to 4, 123-110-117-107 psi. My question is, is the general consensus that my piston and rings are shot and that i need a top engine rebuild. Sorry for the lengthy post. http://s992.photobucket.com/user/carvan4040/library/Suzuki GSX 1100EZ.

Thanks Richard

I also own a 1982 1100e. Thanks for converting the metric figures to US.

I'm watching South Park now, and I see that we're at war, so I'm not allowed to offer you much help. (You are Canadian, correct?)

It doesn't matter, because I have zero mechanical ability. I can tell you that my engine weeps from head and valve cover gaskets, but since it's painted black (ala 1983), it hides a multitude of sins.

Just hit the "return" key twice every few sentences to make your post easier to read. I'm sure some of our experts will chime in shortly.

Best of luck.

Sorry about the text it didn't look that bad when i did it but your right and i have changed put it into some paragraphs. You guessed wrong i'm australian.

Do you have the metal mesh stuff in the valve cover, under the vent cover? It's there to help oil condense out of the vapor and return to the engine. Also wondering how much oil you have in the engine. Engine oil must be checked with the engine cold and the bike on the centerstand.

Yes I have the mesh in the breather cover. On that note the haynes manual shows there being two mesh covers. The suzuki parts manual i downloaded from the internet shows only one which is on the right hand side as you sit on the bike. Which should you believe? The oil level is 100 % correct and is about half way down in the sight glass , i have checked and double checked the oil level and there is no question that it is over full.

The parts fishe suggests only one piece of mesh is to be used. Don't think it would hurt to have two though. How about rigging up a catch bottle for the airbox spewage? That will help you get a handle on how much volume is involved. Route the airbox drain tube into a bottle of some sort and gauge how fast it fills up.

That's what i did with the clear tube coming direct from the breather on the valve cover. I didn't catch all of it in a jar but as you can see it's fairly pouring out and surely can't be considered normal.

Try adjusting your valves, your compression is a little low on 3 cylinders. Might help.

I checked valve clearances about three months ago and all were good
