After replacing my broken turn signal unit my horn does not work any more. any ideas? I tried to clean the inside of the switch as best as possible but it didn't fix it. I would like to put a new horn on the bike. Any good aftermarket horn out there with any good prices? Also would it have to be wierd to the present horn switch or is it possible to wire up a seperate switch seeing as mine doesn't work?
Cheers!

my personal favorite is a fiaam 135Db horn, they scream" GET OUT OF MY WAY STUPID!!! " instead of "could you move please" that the factory horn does.
the factory horn has power to it all the time that the ignition switch is on, the horn button closes the ciurcut in the ground side.
have you traced the wiring to confirm weather it is the horn or the button that is bad?
and have you checked the wiring conections for the replacement turn signal switch pod, may have bad conection.

If you do decide to go with high output horn(s) you will need to wire in a horn relay to handle the added power requirement.

Hi Klack

I saw a small air horn for M/C at Canadian Tire. It may be the unit Focus recommended in his post. I was thinking about trying one on my bike.

I think it would be pretty cool to have a horn that played "Dixie" mounted on a bike.

I'd give up my passenger seat to make room for a small air compressor to power a pair of dual air horns like the ones found on a big rig...

'Course, I'm evil like that...

JC Whitney has them

my voyager 1300 came from the factory with air horns.

you can check wrecking yards for horns from a late model cadilac, VERY LOUD, they will wake the dead!!! 8O garunteed to scare the fecal mater out of any body near by when you set them off.

I replaced the horn on my GSX 1100 E 1981 and GS 1150 E 1984 both th a horn with a strong "car like" sound, this has the advantages that the pedestraians crossing even if there is a red light for them think that a car is honking at them..

Th horns look like http://karl.zellner.com/Signalhorn.jpg and are mounted like http://karl.zellner.com/Signalhorn GSX1100 E 1984.jpg

I don't know the manufacturer but I bought them at http://www.mekonomen.se/katalog.asp?butik=3372-000&sprak=S

stock number Artikelnr: 40-6384, It's a little bit tricky to find on the web-page, but if anybody is interessed a can write an explanation.

I was arbitrarily hitting buttons on my bike and found out my horn doesn't work anyway... may be closer to the air horns than I thought...

If you had the turn signal switch apart Check it and make sure that you have the ground wire hooked up inside the switch assembly

I've got a 4 horn(call to post), air horn set up, that I got from J.C. Whitney, on my bike, and it works well for me. . . . But, You have to USE THE SUPPLIED RELAY, or your horn will not work at all times :D :D :D

Nope, just had the turn signals apart. Well, I had the enitre mess of wires in the headlight casing apart, but all those got put back together.

I just bought the 132 dB "Freeway Blaster" by Fiamm for 26$ and I'm not happy with it. I expected it to sound like a foghorn but it is just a little deeper than my origional horn. I may go back to Canadian Tire and pick up some dual airhorns which cost 54$ if I can decide where to attach them.

Does anybody know if the Fiamm airhorns get brittle when it's -10 to -20C out? I talked to the guys at Cycle Salvage and found out that there are three other guys in Ottawa who ride all winter on GS400s because they handle well in snow! :D

Don't know about Fiamm, but airhorns normally works fine even at -35 C, had airhorns on my car in former days and I lived in a colder area of Sweden at that time.

Use a multimeter and touch one lead to horn body and one wire to battery ground. If horn is properly grounded needle will swing all the way to the right. There is a screw with a lock nut on the horn, if horn is grounded properly loosen the locknut and with the horn button depressed turn the screw one way or the other a little and depress button. If it tries to work keep adjusting and don't forget to tighten locknut.
