    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was wondering if anyone has come across any resources that explain the names of motorcycle parts and what they do. I read a lot of carbs and the theroy behind the from this site and its links. I have some confusion on valves and what they do and the cams. Does anyone know of a site that is motorcycle specific about parts and an explaination on how they work with pics maybe? I would like to know a little more about what each part does and how it ties into the bike.


P.s.
I am going to be takaing the carbs out for a cleaning tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes. I have found some great info on the site so far!
 
Check out the "How Stuff Works" website. Google search it and it should be the first one.

Great stuff on there about how engines work.
 
This thread is just another reason why I brag about the people on here being some of the best people money can't buy! lol Someone asks for help and help's offered. Simple as that, no one complaining of the question or any smart comments. This is a thanks from someone who didn't even ask this question!
 
Another helpful response from the gsers. Being a newbie to motorocyles all around, its really helpful to have you guys as a "big brother" figure when I have questions. In a couple of weeks you guys actually have me at least sounding like I know what I am talking about from all the resources on this site. I was talking to a friend of mine and he was suprised to hear my thoughts on what to do with the bike I bought. Thanks again for all the help. Ill be taking the carbs off and cleaning them today and check them out. Got a new batt and plus. I noticed one of the lines wasn't from a carb that was susposed to be plugged in wasn't and the fuel like wasn't plugged into anything from the tank either. I noticed that stuff just from reading. To be honest when I got the bike a few weeks ago I couldn't even tell you what parts were what. I'm sure I will be talking to you guys a lot more but you have givening me a solid foundation of knowledge with a gentle hand and guidence. Thank you guys so much and I will keep you guys updated on my progress.
 
gratz syren, keep us posted. once you get the basic ideas down, it's not too overwhelming. I think that its fun working on my bike... well usually only when it's something I WANT to do, rather than NEED to do! lol

as far as learning the in's and outs is concerned, well, by being here you on on your way to one of the best motorcycle linguistic immersion courses money can buy....check out bikecliffs site, too, and get yourself a repair manual to have by the bed for light reading....chances are you can download one from cliffs little site...
