    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

First got to say thanks for all the information and help that I have gotten from this great group in getting my recently acquired '85 GS1150 ES back on the road!!
Now for a request for some ideas of what I should consider doing to her since she is now running.
I plan on replacing the tires as soon as the state tax check shows up. I have put new plugs, air filter, petcock, oil filter and oil, replaced air box tubes on her already.
What other things should I do? I know nothing about the maintenance history of this bike. I know the chain has been replaced at some time in her life as it has a master link in it. The sprockets show no signs of wear. The bike runs really good. Minor oil leak at the gear indicator switch that I have a new o-ring to fix it.

Short trips until all the problems rear their ugly head. Gradually increase distance as confidence is developed.
 
I would recommend going through the entire maintainence schedule for the bike and just doing everything on it. That way all of that will be up to date and you should spot some potential problems that way. Next, check the bike over as if you were buying it as a good daily driver.. Give everything a hard look and search for problems. Good luck.
 
If you haven't already overhauled the brakes, change the fluids. Just pump the old stuff through and keep topping up the reservior as you go.
 
Thanks again for the ideas. Did buy a new battery, forgot to mention that. Brakes, I am going to order new pads and redo the calipers here in the next week. I have put almost 400 miles on her since I got her on the road again. just back and forth to work, 14 miles each way. Once I have the new tires on her I plan on taking her for a trip around a local lake and then hopefully meet up with some folks and go for a good ride sometime once this weather out here makes up it's mine what it is going to do. Then at the end of the summer when it starts cooling off again, I am planning on tearing her down and going thru and cleaning and detailing and possibly repaint her. Man these things are a blast.
 
At the very least carefully check the brake lines for wear and especially cracks. Personally I'd change them at the first opportunity.

Pull apart every electrical connector you can find, clean it and push together. This is especially important for the charging circuit connectors, and every earth connection on the bike. Don't forget there are connectors inside the headlight bucket.

If the plug boots are original, replace them. They can break down inside and give you a miss on that plug. They are cheap and unscrew easily from the plug lead.
