A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Identify This Seat Pan?

Definately not a 78 or 79 GS1000 and not from an 80/81 1000G. I've never seen such an abrupt lip like that on the front of a GS seat pan before. I'll be curious what it's from.

It isn't a 1980~up GS850-1100G seat pan nor is a 78~79 GS1000C-EC-N-EN seat.

It's a 1000e

i compared it to my 1000's and i'm pretty sure you're right on mr. tatu. thank you.

i probably won't sell it then. i'll fix it up nice and use it on the skunk i'm working on now.

i guess i just assumed it wasn't anything i could use cuz that's my luck.....

Always remember that advice on the internet is free and worth every penny. ;)
It most definitely IS a '78-79 GS1000 seat pan. Here are a couple of mine. One is even on one of my '78 GS1000E's (imagine that.)

The most OBVIOUS dead give away is the posts used to affix the under seat trim piece.

Funny, those two seat pans are different.

One thing is the same though: Eric is inflammatory.

Care to look at the ribs and the number of holes and their placement Eric? I count two on his and four on yours.

Oh, and there is still the matter of the ribs.

Here's a few more...

Please feel free to post a few pictures of YOUR GS1000 seat pans. As I cannot sit around and ride a computer keyboard all day like several posters here,
I am going out to look for the Riding Game tag as MY GS motorbikes actually run. ;)

didn't really expect this to be controversial. it is an aftermarket seat pan. i looked really closely at the sticker and it was made by a company called "smc acu-weld, inc." googled it and couldn't find much info. so that's why it doesn't have the ribs. everything else lines up for the skunk. even the studs for the plastic trim underneath.

thanks for the replies guys. it's awesome how serious we are about our bikes here.

Only Eric made it controversial.

So it may have came with a mustang seat or something similar?

i dunno. i found it just as in the pictures. in a pile of parts i'd forgotten about.

i'm gonna remove the rivets, clean it up, paint it nice, find the necessary hardware and use it on something.

This stuff from Home Depot will eat off the rust. Soak the pan for a few hours and you will be amazed. Works better than media blasting which has difficulty getting into the rust pits.

mr. nessism, i'll look for that stuff next time i'm in the home despot. i should probably soak just about every metal thing i own in it.....
