Alright after working with you guys on my bike I 'am happy to report everything is golden besides the idle. its 81 gs1100ex with pods and moto gpwerks exhaust and stock cv carbs, final jetting is mk 132.5 main 47.5 pilot 3rd notch from bottom on needle and dh160 air pilot jet 2.75 turns out on a/f screws. the only issue I have left is idle. seems like I 'am always messing with idle speed screw. you start the bike get it warmed up, it will sit and idle but if you rev the engine and let go of throttle and let it return to idle it will just slowly dies. I 'am uploading a video on you tube of the bike performing the issue. idle isn't that smooth either. it would be nice to see a bike that runs and idles good to compare. o and it didn't seem to matter with idle issue weather I had 2.0 or 3.0 or 2.5 turns out on screw. if I do highest idle method I 'am really close to 2.75 turns out.

heres link to previous issue http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=221653&highlight=1/8th

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmF-xKwKTCk&feature=youtu.be video of the problem

Sounds rich to me. 2.75 turns on the mixture screws sounds like a lot to me. I have never had any luck with the highest idle method because the oem tach is not sensitive enough to detect such small speed changes. Do you have a vacuum gauge? If you hook up the gauge and mess with the screws until you get the highest amount of vacuum on the gauge you should be really close.

Turned the screws in to 2 turns out and no change. Will hook up my carbtune to it adjust it that way when I get home that's if I.don't drive it off a cliff before then.

It really didn't sound like a hanging idle to me. It is hard to tell because the audio is poor but sounded more rich to me......

Where can I have vacuum leaks? Has new rubber and clamps on it. Carb throtitle shafts?

Make sure the carbs are seated all the way into the boots , also there is a vacum port fro the petcock you have to plug if you don't use that. All the back sink plugs back in?
Spray with some carb cleaner see if it idles up.

Boots are on as far as I can get and see, the peacock port is plugged, the sync ports just have Allen screws in them no washers or orings, is their post to be?

Spray with carb cleaner around the intake ad watch the tach. Electronic would be better

alright iam convinced I have a air leak either at the carb boots or sync plug bolts, I sprayed starting fluid around the the bolts especially on #3 cyclinder and did get a noticeable change in rpm. sprayed allot and engine started to die so something is going on. know to get it right, how would i seal the sync plug bolts is there a washer there original or small oring? Iam starting with sync bolts cause I just put new boots and clamps on but I could the orientation of the boot off any help with to make sure I have them right or any tips. clamps to tight cause leak? thanks

found some aluminum washers I had looks like the seals are a copper washer, put the washers on with some pipe tape just to see of it fixes anything, driving it to work in a few will report

p.s how do I donate to the site I think its about time I love the help I get and all the info.

So far looking good hasn't tried to die yet. It's more hanging idle know it will get stuck at 1500rpm until I.use the clutch to bring idle down then it will stay at 1100 then slowly creep back up, iam guessing it's just tuning know of a/f screws. It will be nice to actually be able to tune them and get a real response, can't tune with vac leak:rolleyes:

did you ever balance the carbs? That is first before idle mixture setting for max RPM.

i did carb sync about 3 times but that was before i knew i had a vac leak, probley wouldnt hurt to recheck it.
