DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey guys, having some weird problems and looking for help. 1982 Suzuki GS550L. I start the bike up and it immediately climbs real high with the choke on. Adjust the choke about half way and let it warm up. Once its warm enough to turn off the choke, it starts idling pretty good around 1500. Then it randomly starts to climb upwards of 4 and 5k. Turn the idle knob down and it goes back down. Then it just keeps randomly climbing on its own. I just can?t keep the idle in the same spot. After I give it some gas it also temporarily stays about 1k higher than what it should, before it returns to about 1 and eventually dies. It can easily run for 20 mins, and if I don?t keep messing with the idle knob it eventually dies. It also kind of looks like one exhaust pipe is working harder than the other at times. Here is what I have done so far?
? Unganged and dipped carbs. Changed all internal o-rings and verified passages clear.
? Changed boot O-rings on engine side (boots look good with no visible cracks, but are probably original).
? Replaced airbox boots to carbs.
? Sealed airbox lid with weather stripping.
? New plugs, oil, air filter
? Inline fuel filter (looks to be full of gas when bike is running)
? Verified fuel mixture screws at 2.5 turns out.
Have any ideas? I?m stumped.

Sounds like an air leak. The 550's likes the pilot screws at 3.5 turns or so, but doubt that could cause the problems as noted.

I'd check all the electrical connections in the ignition circuit- maybe one coil ain't firing at times or maybe one plug isn't, causing an erratic idle. Make sure clamps on boots are tight-old boots might fool you.

Yeah I just went ahead and ordered new intake boots. Thanks for the advise. I do appreciate it.
