I believe it is a 6 or 7mm line. Take a look at the "Where do these hoses go" post on Basscliff's site for more info though.

Probably but instead of taking my word why not use your calipers and measure the outside diameter of your petcock in mm - that will equal the inside diameter of the hose you need.

anyone know of a good place to get the intake boots? i'm making a wishlist over on Bike bandit and they want almost $40 for 1.
Go back to Basscliff's welcome and look at the different vendors he listed in that.
Agreed.

Bike Bandit seems to be the second-most-expensive dealer for most items, right after Alpha Sports.

I have my list of vendors, it includes all the vendors on BassCliff's list and a coulple others, but the ones I use the most are G&S Suzuki and Part Shark.

Is the fuel line 1/4" on the 750? it looks larger but the local shop swears it's 1/4".

i'm asking because i'm about to buy some braided fuel line and an inline filter and just want to triple check.
Don't get braided line, you will need the flexibility of STOCK line.
You also probably don't want to add a filter. Most filters are too restrictive, as they are made for cars with fuel pumps that will push the gas through. If you insist on using a filter, get one for a lawn tractor, as most of them have gravity-fed fuel systems, like our bikes.

If I remember correctly, the 1/4" IS too big. It will 'work', but it won't be 'right'. The correct size is metric, but I can't recall what it is off the top of my head.
You are right, 1/4" is the wrong size, but it's TOO SMALL. The proper line is 7mm. 1/4" is 6.25mm and 5/16" is 7.94mm. If you could find a 9/32" line, it would be pretty close, at 7.14mm, but it's just so darn easy to get the right stuff. Note that it's not quite as expensive as it seems. When you order fuel line, you get about six feet of it, and typically need less than a foot.

By the way, the braided line you were looking to put on there is made for whatever size it's listed for. If it's 1/4" line, you will have a hard time stretching that reinforced line over the 7mm fittings on the bike. If you get 5/16" line, it will slip onto the fittings, but then you have to get clamps and really tighten the snot out of them before they cinch the large hose down far enough to stop the leaks. I use stock OEM hoses and do not use ANY clamps on my fuel lines. :p

I believe it is a 6 or 7mm line.
Yep, 7mm.

it says the 850 is 8mm or 5/16th's. would this be the same as the 750?
A lot of guys think it's 8mm because that's what someone put on there before, but the proper stuff is 7mm.

By the way, good luck finding a fuel filter with 7mm fittings.

I am trying to make sure that I am ordering the right main jets for my 79 GS 750. anyone know which jets go in the VM carbs on this bike?

i think it is this type of jet, at least that is what seems to be in there now but i feel like i keep reading conflicting info and i don't think these are "super BS" carbs.

they look like these but I'm not 100% and wanted to make sure, it's hard to tell when you don't have the old jets next to the new ones for comparison.

I also bought a a set of the hex ones accidentally because it said that they were for the VM carbs BEFORE i took the carbs apart, i know that is stupid but is there any chance these will work??

I'm pretty sure I found the cause of the throttle hang. When I disassembled the carbs to soak and clean I found a bent slide needle. I'm geussing that this bent needle was preventing the throttle from allowing the slide to close. does this make sense or am I way off here and the bent needle is inconsequential?

I haven't got the carbs back together yet but I will be sure to let you guys know how she runs once i start her back up again.

So Steve just happened to be in NH this weekend and was kind enough to swing by my abode and lend me a hand with my valve adjustment and i can't thank him enough, it was really educational.

now, once i get my new shims in and hook the carbs up i'll be all set to fire her back up and start to dial her in, i'm really excited, now on to some wiring and brake work until the shims come in.

and just so this thread wraps up i'll post when i start the bike again to make sure that it was the bent needle that was causing the hanging idle. although, the o-rings definitely needed replacing and one of the carb boots was had a chunk taken out of it(which i replaced) so i'm sure those factors didn't help.

Well it wouldnt make it run right thats for sure.

Ok, so something I did somewhere worked great and now the bike is running awesome!

The things I did were as follows:

1)complete carb rebuild and I mean COMPLETE. that is soaking in carb dip, and replacing o-rings with http://cycleorings.com/
I also replaced 2 carb bodies, one had been patched with some liquid steel or something and I accidentally broke the protruding brass looking thing at the bottom of one of the carb bodies, luckily I have a donor bike!

2)replaced a bent carb slide needle

3)new main jets, 115 up from 105 for the Pods.

4)new pilot jets 17.5 up from 15

5)1 new carb boot to replace one that was chipped and all new carb boot o-rings.

6)measured and reset carb floats to Spec.

7)bench sync

8)valve adjustment with the help of Steve! Thanks Steve!

I then put everything back together and primed the float. carb #4 started ****ing out gas so I tapped the bowl and all was well.

I waited a minute or so pulled the choke and she fired right up!

she takes the gas great now has no hanging idle and takes throttle "blips" like a champion! I don't think i could stall it if i wanted to.

I can't wait to take her for a test/shakedown ride!
