    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am working on a 1981 Suzuki GS550L, and I am not getting any spark. Now, I am working on this bike with the help of two rusty mechanics; and what we have found out is that i could be two major issues. One would be that the pulsar is bad, but it is brand new so we are assuming it is good, another thing it could be is the ignitor, or CDI. I am trying to find out if it is possible to workbench test the ignitor. Now the this bike is a restore project, the previous owner says that all the wiring has been redone and that it was running, but it was running poorly, the new pulsar that i got for it is a universal DYNA model. I only get a chance to work on the bike every Sunday, so any help or info before then is great, thanks

I'm not sure if you really mean workbench test the ignitor as in remove it from the motorcycle altogether, but BassCliff will be along at some point to give you a welcome package. IF you do not have a workshop manual, then his website is the place to go.

Here is the direct link to a writeup on the ignitor tests.

When you get a chance, go into your User CP, and add in a signature block with your bike year/model so you don't have to say it in every new thread and/or post. You can also put in your location, so others around you might be able to offer a hand.

How long have you had this motorcycle? Have you EVER had spark since you acquired it?

Thank you for the link, I have a shop manual for the bike, I've owned this bike for about a month. I have not had spark since then, the previous owner did have spark; However it was a very week spark. So I'm just going off of whatever I can find out, one week at a time

Greetings and Saluations!

Hi Mr. David,

If it turns out your igniter is toast, the Dynotek Dyna-S is the usual replacement/upgrade. It's much cheaper than an igniter unit.

In case you missed it, here's some S.W.A.G. :)
