A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

A question I need a little help with. The ignitor on my g1100gk is gone.
Let me start with what I've done. I made up a wire harness just for the ignition coming direct from the battery plus to the plus side of the coils and the red wire on the igniter, I'll put in a relay later once I get it working.
The ground wire from the igniter to the battery and the other 2 wires from the coils directly to the igniter. The pickup coils have equal resistance and are connected to the igniter. I crank the engine no spark. I do the igniter test no spark but if I ground and unground the negative side of the coils at the igniter plug I get spark. So the wires, coils and plugs are good. I even went so far as getting the igniter out of it case and I find a really hot resistor in there I'm wondering is maybe those 26 year old caps are bad causing the resistor to draw to much current.
But the real question is does anybody know if I can just replace the old igniter and pickup with a Dyna S, or do I have to go to a full blown Dyna 2000/3000. It seems the Dyna s was made to replace the points but since I have the electronic ignition already will it work on my bike ?
Any insight would be much appreciated, Thanks ...

My understanding of the dyna system is you can swap the coils, CDI and the 'backing plate' or use parts of the system.

I've never fitted one myself but know that you can use the coils and box with standard Suzuki electronic 'points.'

Go to e-bay and search 'wayne gum' He might have what you want.

Don't do this!! You will have constant power to the coils and igniter, wether your contactswitch is on or of. You risk the chance to kill the coils and igniter this way.

Dyna S will work but you need a mechnical advance unit off a '81 or earlier engine. Not sure but maybe a 850 advance will work since they are easy to find.

FYI, the ignitor for the 850 is the same as the 1100 for '82 - they apparently use the same spark advance curve since the ignitor control spark advance for '82. They sell on ebay for not all that much...although a brand new Dyna S might be the way to go.
