    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

INSTALLING A CLUTCH/PUSHROD SEAL???Help!

Anyone know any tricks to installing this seal?......

My clutch/pushrod seal underneath the crankcase cover on the left side/chain side of the bike popped out. I think from to much oil. But I can't fit the new one in without ruining it. It is bigger than the hole I'm trying to put it in, but I know it's the right size. It needs to be compressed or something to be put in. I tried to freeze it, but that didn't get is small enough. Someone told me to use gasket seal on it, but I know that that is not the right way. So it's at the shop and they don't know how to put it in exactly. I have to find someone with the right answer. If you know how to do this please help me with some information, or a contact who might know, thank you!
 
Are you absoluterly sure that the part is ther correct one. I have only done that seal replacement on my yamaha 650 and it was an in an out deal. i agree with using black permatex on the item after a thorough cleaning of the surfaces.
 
Same here, simple replacment of a standard garloc-type seal.

Yea the suzuki dealer looked the part up, so I guess so. The new one lookes like the old one, but It will definetely not fit in the same hole from the outside without ruining it. Unless they have some special compression tool to put it in. It also has a bit of pressure behind it and my oil is low right now, does it usually have that much pressure behind it? Maybe something else is going on with all the pressure, and also one guy told me I would have to take it all apart and put th plug in from the inside and he wanted to charge me 400 bucks to do that????

what is that?? is that the normal seal, or something special I should order instead of what the suzuki's computer is saying to order?
And also, is there supposed to be some pressure behind that seal, enough to pop it out without the sealant.

go to bike bandit and see if the part number matches or call another dealer. The job was so simple on my yammy. I will never believe that the cases have to be split to acomplish the replacement. If it absolutely wont fit, supect the part being correct.
 
THE seal will fit very tight..... First I think the push rod will pull out -- take it out. Get a socket to fit the dia of the seal, maybe a little larger (reverse the socket), connect 6" extension. Put some gasket shelack (DO NOT use silicon type sealers) on the out side of the seal ( it will seal & also lube the seal so it slides in easier) Give the socket/extension tool i a wack with a big hammer (at least 3 lb) to drive the seal into the engine case. Then clean & grease the push rod & inner part of the seal, re install
 
On my -81 GS450 the original seal had a "lip" or flange on the outer ring which set in a grove in the crankcases. I were supposed to split the engine to get it out, but didn't. I just used brute force. The replacement seal did not have this flange, and popped back in with no problem, but this is more reliant upon the retaining plate to hold it in place.
Just thought I'd mention it.
 
I did my 80 550 with a hammer and a piece of PVC pipe as a driver, the rod would not come out. Yes it's a tight fit. I ruined one seal trying to install it. So you might get a spare... But you can get it in.
