    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Intake boot mounting on 1100G?

I am reinstalling the carbs on my 1100 after cleaning...

I removed the intake boots to replace the o-rings and I noticed that they are wedge-shaped up and down. Depending on how they are installed, the angle of the carbs will change. If the narrow wedge end of the boot faces up, the carbs angle up slightly. If the narrow wedge end of the boot faces down, the carbs appear to be more level.

I'm assuming that the carbs want to be level, but just to be sure... Does the narrow end of the boot face up or down?

Narrow on the bottom, carbs will be level.

More importantly, though, they are marked R and L, which will put the port for the carb sync gauges down and to the outside of the engine.

What confused me was my sync ports are tapped into the heads, so I couldn't go by that, and the boots are smaller than the ones shown in my Haynes manual. Maybe the ones in the manual are earlier models, because all 1100 info is in an appendix in the back.

Level makes sense.;)
 
I wanted to pass on what I discovered today about intake boot installation on the 1100G...

After I installed the carbs today with narrow boot end facing down and the carbs level, the air box bolt holes were about 3/8" too low. Even with all six boot clamps loose, the box would not line up. I took it all apart and installed the boots narrow end up and everything fit as it should. :D

Learned today about the R & L markings on the intakes, I installed them with the marks facing up (up and inward actually) and the airbox top mount holes lined up correctly with the frame

All the other four-cylinder shafties (650, 850, 1000) have the ports in the boots.

Just to let you know, my 1980 GS1000G and GL have the ports in the head as well.
