    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

intermittent idle problem

Hi all. My 81 GS450T has an odd problem I cant seem to nail down. It either wants to idle down and die, or, it holds a high!! idle after letting off the throttle. I cant seem to adjust the center screw to set the idle when I cant figure out what it wants to do.
I took the carbs off and pulled the bowls off, jets, floats and cleaned them as good as I could. The bike only has 1300 miles on it so I'm pretty sure nothing is worn out. I checked the CV slides and when I push them up, they both come down nice and smooth with no sticking. I'm pretty much at a loss here and don't know much about CV carbs at all. Any ideas why it acts like this?
I've also ensured I've got slack in the throttle cable so I know it's returning to it's stop position. After cleaning the carbs the responce is much better now, but it's still got the idle problem. I just don't feel safe riding it like this.
One more note though, it seems that when I'm riding it, I pull the clutch in and give it some gas, when it holds a high idle I can slip the clutch out to put a load on it, it brings the idle down so I'm guessing it may be some sort of a vaccume problem?

Ideas????
 
Intake boot O-rings are leaking. They are sandwiched between the cylinder head and the rubber carb runners.

Thanks for the reply. I'll start surfing the web and see if I can find anyone selling these boots and O rings. My local Suzuki dealer here was not much help being the age of my bike. They didn't seem to willing to help me out, but more than willing to sell me a new one!.
Looks like surfing Ebay time!!
 
Your Suzuki dealer should be able to order new ones for you. You can get the part numbers from www.bikebandit.com

If they can't then just order them from that website.
 
My GS450S does the same thing, just not as bad. Low idle (will stall if I let it) while cold, high idle when hot. For now I adjust the throttle stop, and I'll be replacing those o-rings soon. The bike was a runner before I bought it, but not as often so things like this will be popping up over the next year or so.

I would also replace the airbox rubbers if they're very hard. New ones will make putting on the airbox much easier and give you a better seal.
