    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Intermittent Stator

I noticed my charging system was only outputting ~ 12.8V at idle and low 13s at higher. I did a full check of the charging system and everything was in spec. I replaced the battery with a new one and all seemed good or so I thought. Soon after the output voltage dropped. I pulled things apart again and the stator is only outputting abut 18VAC at idle and ~50 VAC at higher RPM. resistance is 0.6 ohms coil to coil and no shorts to ground. Stator is a Ricks ~ 1 year old. This is intermittent but mostly in the faulty state. Anybody have anything else I could check before I replace it and also what the root cause may be?

Test shorts to ground at 5k rpm. Part of the revised phase b tests.

As the link states can be done either way; the unloaded test is a pretty stressing test because it has the highest voltage to breakdown the insulation. The loaded test puts current through which will heat the unit if the insulation breakdown is temperature dependent.
 
OK re-checked my readings for leg to leg -- the 50 VAC reading I initially took was only at ~3.5K RPM at 4.5K RPM its ~70 VAC and at ~5K RPM it's 75VAC.

For leg to ground it's about 1/2 the leg to leg Voltage at 4.5K RPM it reads ~35VAC for each leg

Starting to think it's not the stator but the regulator (Compufire), which is also only about a year old!!!!

Re read my post leg (sorry another thread) ground should be zero (ie isolated, OL, high resistance) 35vac is a short to ground; replace stator call me in the morning.
