    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is a bobber possible with my 83 GS 1100E?

Hi everyone,

I have been working so hard on getting this bad boy tuned up and I am relieved to say that it is FINALLY running like a dream come true. I have been wrenching on it for almost a year now and as of Saturday it is done. Now that I am in such good shape I have been thinking about a bobber look to it but I have not seen one of this model ever before. Does anyone know if they have seen one or what it maight look like? I know that anyhting is possible.

I am in Northern California, Sacramento and would like to work with someone on getting some concepts together for it.

Sure, it's possible.
You could make the Mona Lisa into a bunch of shop rags, too.

Wow. I hacked the **** out of my GS550L, but mine is an unpopular, ugly, rusty POS. No waaaay would I cut up a beautiful bike like yers. If you want a bobber GS, grab a cheap mechanics special off craigslist. IMO. If you get the same bike you will have effectively double the spare parts too, and the experience.

Haha, I agree. Got to be pulling a fast one.

If you are at all serious, do what I did and find a sub-par craigslist bike. Worth paying a little extra for one with paperwork that is all square though! You run into some sketchy bikes/people if you're not careful. First thing to ask is registration and title status(don't want to drive an hour to find out the title is in his ex-girlfriend's name). Then you can start worrying about how the bike itself is.
 
Let it be said I am far from a Purist. I believe in make the bike yours do as you wish, but in this case I really have to agree. That bike is beautiful. I am actually looking for one of those or a 82 Katana. I have a nice GS550L that I am giving a make over, but that is in paint and bars only. Then I have the spare frame and moter from my original project and that I am planning on making into a chop. I would never concieve of doing that to a bike as nice as yours though. I would by some basket case that I intend to put together with bits and pieces of other bikes and parts of my own manufacture if that is what you want to do. Just my $.02.
 
Nobody in their right mind cuts up a bike like that.

I dare you to cut that thing up. Double dog dare you.

Get your video camera and take some shots of the bike running and what it looks like now. Then put the camera on a tripod and film while you hack off the rear subframe, rear fender, muffler, etc. Post the video on You Tube when you are done.

I thank you all for the overwhelming repsponses! I will stay true to form with my beloved GS and I will just get the seat reupholstered okay? I do think the bike looks and rides great as is, I just get excited and want to make changes. An ever evolving project if you will. I guess it is at the point where it shoudl simply be enjoyed for what it is. A fantastic bike in superb shape!

i think i saw you on bobberforum.com but im not sure. of course you can bob it, shafties are a challenge but using struts can solve that. bust out the sawzall and let the bike do the chopping if ya get my drift.

A smiley should be inserted after such a comment as technically it constitutes a threat no matter how comical the intent.

Oh and as for bobbing a motorcycle. Bobbing looks as isiotic on a bike as it does on a poor molested horse. Please do no ruin such a nice bike.
It is not some ugly Rat that would cost a fortune to restore it is in nearly perfect shape cosmetically. In general bikes that are shiny and clean ont he outside have had their innerds kept well too.
 
The styling of the 1100E isn't ideal for a bobber in my opinion. An "L" might be easier, as it already has more of a classically rounded tank style. In truth, I also agree that a less pristine example would be more suitable. Better to save a poor example by bobbing it than to cust up a nice presentable one.

That said, I could not be more bored with flat black paint, fenders removed, side license plates, and single cycle seats.

Here's a thread on a replica seat cover you can install yourself. I bought one of these foa a GS1000G, and it looks nice.

My engine comes out a bend frame so i bought a Hardtail Lowrider Custom Frame and build her up,i wouldn't cut into the original frame etc,if she is fine and original a beauty why dont you look for a spare engine or bike to chop ? Just an idea..
 
Actually yes. Sportbike, done right, look very good bobbed in my opinion. And no one will spartan kick anynthing to stop it. I will though go out on a limb and believe this was to get a rise out of the few purist here. This is a picture of a work in progress. And in my opinion, a damn nice start. Styling is what you make of it. If they can Cafe a Harley and do a nice job, you can indeed Bob a sportbike.
