    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Didn't know if I should put this in the fuel or ignition Tech forum??
Road the 550L (1982) to work yesterday. It?s light and a lot more fun in traffic than my others. This one red light is always backed up. I was in stop and go traffic for about a mile. Seemed to be running really good. Air temp was 96 deg. Last week we had the same air temp but my outside temp gage on my other bike was showing 104 degrees thanks to the asphalt. When I got close enough to make the next light, soon as I let the clutch out it died. Just like I had turn the switch off. I pushed it to the side and up the road to a shady spot. Couldn?t get it to start. Turned over fine. Had a full tank of gas. When I hauled it home it started a few times as long as I didn?t touch the gas throttle. It would slowly pick up RPM?s. Then rev?ed fine. Several times I turned it off and it would start slowly if I didn?t touch the gas. Then it got to where it wouldn?t start at all again. Too tired and mad to work on it last night. Any clues as to what I need to look for? Could the high temp do something? I guess I?ll know more if it starts up good tonight.

Try it with the gas cap removed. May not be venting and with a full tank the heat may have caused some expansion.
 
I used to have an 82 550L and frequently experienced what you described. I think the heat had something to do with it too.

I'm not sure exactly what it was, but I had the stator and regulator changed, and I don't recall it stalling after that.

For other reasons, I ended up selling it a few months later.
 
It fired right up last night. Running great. I think it was the heat and maybe the gas cap vent. I think you were right bonanzadave. Thanks. Just in case I think I'll leave it home on really hot days.

...or or or... you could clean the vent out. :cool:
 
Sounds like a fuel flow problem.
Petcock?
It didn't fix itself. Chances are it will happen again.
