A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Proper oiling of the air filter will fix a lean condition. I have been working on my 82 GS1100GL since I bought it in august trying to get all the proper maintenance done. The charging system is working perfectly now, carbs have been torn down and properly rebuilt, air box boots replaced, air box sealed, new intake boots and o-rings, valves adjusted and carbs synced. Bike was still running a little lean and had a slight stumble in the mid range.

It has a 4 into 1 Vance and Hines exhaust and a Uni filter other than that it is all stock. So I shimmed the needles to fix the mid range and I ordered some 120 mains for the lean condition. Well I ordered the jets from Boulevard Suzuki about three weeks ago and I still don't have them so in the mean time I have been reading a lot of threads. I have never used Uni filters before and i could have sworn that I read one post that said to not oil a Uni filter so I left it dry when I did all the maintenance. I decided to use the search function and wouldn't you know it they should be oiled.

I ran to the shed pulled out the bike and cleaned and oiled the filter. Threw it back in and fired her up. I could instantly tell it was running richer. Actually to rich at idle so I turn the idle mixture screws in a quarter turn and went for a ride. The bike is still to rich in the first quarter of throttle so I'm going to turn the idle mixture screws in another quarter turn next chance I get. That would put them at 2 3/4 turns a full 1/2 less than what they were before oiling the filter. I can also hit the start button now without applying any throttle once the bike is warm. Before I had to crack the throttle just a touch to get it to start. Full throttle still feels like it could use a little more. However I think I can get away with using 117.5 instead of the 120 mains.

This is good to hear. I'm having similar troubles now with mine, and I even noticed some carbon deposit around the outside of the airbox boots.

After reading this, I think I'll go ahead and replace the airbox seals and boots.
