DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

You guys helped me out a few days ago with a "Dreaded 80 Petcock" problem, now I've got a wire from the rectifier (the finned unit on the left side of the bike next to the battery box) that the PO had hooked to one of the battery terminals. But I'm not now sure which terminal, positive or negitive.
Ther are 5 wires coming from this unit, from top down, RED, White/Black stripe, White/Red stripe, Yellow, and the loose one with the connector on it is White with a black or brown stripe.
Can anyone tell me which battery terminal that one goes on ?

When I was younger 50/50 odds were as good as a sure thing, but now not so much.

Thanks

Calme toi I am sure its black and greasified white with age

its likely a ground so do not despair till someone come on to tell you for sure.

I think if it is they all preacha direct hookup to the neg batt term.

Well one is red and goes to power, 3 of them are from the stator and the last is to the negative terminal. Most people on here will tell you to run it directly there because it's easier on the r/r from what I understand. I'm no expert so make sure someone verifies, but I'm pretty certain since I hooked ground directly to negative terminal as well ;)

OK !! Thanks !
It's a good morning, I'll take your advice, kick around a bit and see if there's agreement on the NEG terminal.
I believe you're correct because the wire is certainly long enough to reach the NEG side.
I'm really wanting this bike to start relatively easy and run good.
With four bikes I'd like to sell this one and put the money to better (practical), the wife you know, use.
I don't want to sell it if it's going to be a pain for someone else.

Thanks

Black with a white trace is ground. You can run it to either a solid frame ground or the negative battery terminal.

Red goes to the battery, via the main harness if you hook it up like Suzuki designed. You can bypass the harness and go straight to the battery but please add a fuse in line if you choose this route.

Thankyou again!
All is well, the bike is running great.
Took it around the block, it's soooo smooth, barely hear it running.
I DO have to get a new battery, at first I could get it to turn over like gang busters but no fire.
I jumped it off my car (not running), headlight much brighter and it fired right up.
Got some water/condensation dripping from the exhaust crossover pipe, but that's it.
Ignition switch seems loose so I'll look into that.

You would be well advised to put a volt meter across the battery and then rev the engine up to 4000 rpm or so to check the charging system. You should see at least 14 volts otherwise the bike is not charging properly.
