I know, there are about 10 pages of threads with jet questions, but nothing quite like my question. Unless I just didn't find it, and in that case someone please link the thread to me.
I just bought the GS, with STOCK jets, a supertrapp 4 into 1, and missing air box.
My question is.....
the K&N pods are $180, the stock airbox and K&N filter about the same to replace. I only have the 4 into 1 exhaust so I am wondering what the opinions are about re-jetting correctly with the 4-1 and buying a stock airbox, vs rejetting with the 4-1 and getting the pods. what if I just threw a single K&N filter on with no airbox? Then what jets? My goal now is just to get it running, as it needs tires and new seat cover, etc... how badly will it run with stock jets and a lot of air coming in?
As of now, I have pilot jet=42.5, main jet=112.5, air jet 170.

Since I don't have the stock airbox to just "leave in and not mess with pods", what would the masses recommend??

And if anyone wants to throw in a comment on why my #2 carb came out of the Berrymans Dip black (after almost 24hrs) I mean everything black, brass parts and screws and all, let me know.... do I just need to boil them or soak in hot soapy water...will my wife's jewelry cleaner help the brass?

wow deja vu all over again, i was in your shoes exactly a year ago, bought 82 750E with 4-1 supretrapp and no airbox. i was never able to find the right airbox so i just switched to pods and am still trying to figure it out. if you want to buy pods as it will be easier then finding both parts of the airbox you will also need a jet kit, this will make your life a lot easier my carbs were messed with so i didnt buy a jet it and still trying to figure it out if you have stock carbs buy a jet kit and start there. Follow instruction in the jet kit package

Dodik- do you mean you could not find one used? I was at my local suzi dealer and he pulled it up on their microfische. It was about $140 for the box.
He also mentioned that the bike was meant to use the airbox and would be harder to tune with pods. As many people on here that have said they run great with DJ kit I find it hard to believe. This and he also said that I should be able to tune it for the supertrapp just by backing out the air mixture screw, when most people on here suggest STARTING with a 130 main. Mine has a 112.5 now.
Was going to post up in wanted section for a box just to see if one was available cheaper than new.
Need to get it to turn over before I spend any more money on that stuff though. Working on the harness tonight, as turning key does nothing with a new battery...

well i should've said i couldnt find both parts of the airbox for less than 75 and only seen 3 or 4 of them complete come thru here or ebay but then again i stopped looking and just got a front plenum put a cone filter on the back of it and ran like that all last season. if you stay with the airbox you might get away with just messing with baffles some folks say that trapp pipe is more restrictive than stock exhaust at certain amount of plates so you may be able to dial it in that way. i got a great deal on K&n pods and since my carbs were all messed with by PO i decided it makes more sense to learn how to jet.

Gotcha. I did notice that the supertrapp has quite a few baffles in it and the cap over the air mixture screw was gone, but I didn't check how far out the screw was before the tear down. My main concern now is getting it to start. New fuses last night and the lights came on. Starter button would not turn over starter, but shorting the relay would so I got into the switch housing and broke the kill switch!! More wiring work tonight and got a lead on two switch assemblies from guys on here already. Great resource this site is.
