DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just bought an ultra sonic cleaner for carbs

Lmao..thats what i get for one finger typing and thinking of the next letter and transposing them...Merry CHRISTmas back to all of you guys as well. Hopefully 2012 will be a lot better for me as well as yourselves.

I have an US machine now for carbs, and I love it. Works just as good as Berrymans IMHO, and much faster, and less destructive. I still go throught the steps of shooting carb cleaner through all passages, and blowing them out with air.
I bought the cheap US cleaner from Harbor Freight and it works pretty good. I've also used diluted Pine Sol with very good results. Mine heats up as well, which obviously helps break down the greasy crud.

Pine Sol eh?
I'm trying this stuff in my new US cleaner called Everything (everythingcleaner.net). The active ingredients are alcohol, Sodium metasilicate, & tetrasodium ethylenediamine tetraacetate. It cleans pretty good at a 2-1 ratio but I would like it to "etch" a little more as I would like it to try to restore my carbs to more of the way they were when new.
So I'm looking for something a little more acidic. I think the Everything cleaner is alkaline.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Paul

You can try vinegar..

Molds, grease, and bacteria are no match for the cleaning power of vinegar. But why is this? Since we now know that vinegar is acid based, it's easier to understand how it can clean so effectively. When an acid is applied to grease, it breaks it down quickly.

Vinegar is such a powerful cleaner than for the most part, it should be cut 50-50 with water to dilute the solution.

Ok, I've developed a liquid that works amazingly well in my Ultra Sonic carb cleaner & am now offering my services to my fellow members of the GSR. It's a blend of several chemicals, all bio-degradable & environmentally safe.

My Ultra Sonic cleans in three ways.
1. The special solution dissolves greases & dirt.
2. The built in heater helps to clean stubborn deposits
3. The Ultra Sonic principle itself that is explained further in this link.

Maybe you should add a disclaimer that even though they are spending 350.00 for what a 19.00 can of berrymans will do, that they will still have to be sure the valves are within specs, they will still have to vacuum sync the crabs and do all final adjustments. For that price, the unknowing newbie will probably expect that your gonna throw them back pefectly set up carbs.

He never said they would be perfectly set up. A vacuum synch has nothing to do with a cleaning so why would anyone think that? You cannot even synch the carbs correctly beyond a bench synch without them being on the bike in the first place

Sorry i misread the numbers quoted...so your charging 130.00 and that is JUST FOR THE CARB BODIES??? And the statement about them being cleaner than any other method on the market? Good try.

I realise he never said they would be perfectly set up..but a total new guy without the first clue may read that assumption into it..thats all i am saying.

Why are you starting this up again? We all know what your opinion is. It seems like you're deliberately trying to sabotage my idea. I'm not going to be drawn into a disagreement with you over whether a can of carb dip can equal Ultra Sonics.

The results speak for themselves.

That is a true statement for both sides of the arguement...Im not trying to sabotage crap for you. Just such a shame that the unsuspecting fall for all this ultra sonic high tech bullchit..its like listening to a tv preacher thats really all about getting you to send you that monthly check..whooo to the gullable.

Chuck, you REALLY need to get past the 19th century!!! Ultrasonic cleaners WORK, work WELL, use biodegradable solutions instead of chemicals, & are HERE TO STAY!!! Since I bought mine do you know how many times I've used my Berrymans? ZERO! Gee, want to guess why?!!! Because the ultrasonic works BETTER! PERIOD!!! And I have been doing carbs for over 30 years! Ray.

Chuck, are you trying to work your way into "pessimism's" territory on here?
You are sounding JUST LIKE HIM.
"That won't work, this can't work, only stock works, follow the factory manual only (except to adjust the valves correctly or tightening bolts), etc."

ULTRASONIC IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO... PERIOD!

If you have any doubts, TRY IT!!!

Daniel...whos pessimism?? and no I never said that ultrasonic cant, wont, doesnt work..just that its none the better than barrymans in the long run. If someone wants to be lulled into that mindset just because they need to keep up a fasade with the Jones then cherrio to them. The only advantage is they get the job done faster than the wait period required to soak them in the dip..your gonna replace the orings anyways, so they dont "save the orings" or any other great whiz bang advantage..sorry if you guys dont like someone thats not gonna goose step into the "Hey I gotta have this or that gadget ..look how tech cool I am" fantasy land.
