A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.
Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.
Bike looks great! can't you just reroute the cables and lines? that usually works just fine when changing bars, at least it has on the ones I've done.
Are those the bikemaster brand? I'm about to do the same to my 650L, those look perfect.

My L-model came with the stock bars, which I hated and never even tried. Then I got some stock G-bars which looked a lot better but still had me sitting far too upright. And then recently I put Daytona bars on my L-model. (At least I think they're Daytona's.) Much improved the ergonomics of the bike. I could still go a bit lower, but at least the riding position is decently comfortable now.
The only cable on mine which required extra work was the clutch cable. It was rubbing up against the speedo and binding when turning the forks left. So I disconnected it from the clutch cover and routed it to the left of the carbs (instead of in between) and that worked fine. The cable is in plain view now, but I don't care much about that. If you do this, make sure the cable isn't pressing against the delicate plastic connector on top of the oil pressure switch. (Ask me how I know...)
Another quick question for you... was there a hole that needed to be drilled on the throttle side? I've read that somewhere, but have never had the throttle off mine to see for myself... maybe it's a different bike that has that.

No I did not have to drill any holes. I do have to get new mirrors now I can see past my shoulders with these bars.
The stock setup on alot of the original bars was to drill a hole in the bar and the throttle assembly had a metal tab that fit in there, I guess it was to make the throttle assembly stay put better. If you buy new bars you simply bend that tab off, or you could drill another hole but I've never found it necessary. The two screws hold everything in place fine enough.
I did that bar swap twenty years ago on my 650G and its still a great setup today. I didn't need to swap cables but the brake lines were too long and did not rout to my satisfaction....soooo....this is a great time for you to swap out those too-long floppy rubber brake lines for new braided stainless steel lines. Probably you'll need a custom installation. I got a bike shop to fabricate my setup. The stopping power with these lines is amazing.![]()
Looks great, Rock. I should be replacing my handlebars early next month (I'm in the middle of moving. sad face). The stock L bars are so uncomfortable. :\
