    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

K&N Oval Pods

I'm a newbie so I'm a bit confused. I know to run pods your supposed to rejet. But on this website it says for these specific pods you don't have to. They sale another kind that says you do have to. Whats the difference? Are they full of it? Or could I put these on and not mess with anything else? I'm not going to lie, I just like the look of pods vs that huge air box.

You'll have to rejet for individual pod filters. The description on the bottom of that link is talking about air filters that act as a stock replacement and fit inside the airbox.

The description is not matching the particular filters pictured. It would be a single unit.
 
Ok, that makes sense now that I reread it. I'm about to rebuild my carbs, so if I did a dynojet kit I would only need the carb o-rings and float bowl gasket, correct?
 
Yep, as long as all the internal bits and pieces are in good condition. And you'll be able to identify any problems as you break them down for a cleaning.

If you are careful those float bowl gaskets are reusable. I've had the bowls off many many times.

If you order the O-ring kit from Robert Barr, take a look at the allen bolt kit for the carbs. Eliminates those pesky and often reamed out screws.

Also, check the condition of your intake boots. The rubber tubes that hook the carbs to the head. They tend to crack and stiffen with time, and you would be wise to replace them.

Yup. for pods, o-rings, float bowl gaskets and a Dynojet kit. Add to this list a good solid cleaning per the walkthrough on BassCliff's page and you should be golden.

I got my O-rings from cycleorings.com, the dynojet and gaskets from Z1.

You can get a set of 54mm pods from Emgo for about $25. I like K&N, just not paying for the name when EMGO are almsot as good of quality. (folks will debate)

I would do float bowl gaskets for sure, (they are cheep enough not to sweat it) and maybe seat o-rings and seat needles if they show any wear. as far as a full dyno kit, I would just replace the jets and shim the needle, about a 1/2 of the cost of a DJ kit. pilot up one step and mains up 2, with about 1.5mm shim. Then adjust the fuel screw for fine tuning on idle.

A trick I learned 40+ years ago from drag-racing and changing jets often on Holley carbs. Rub the float-bowl side of the gasket with chapstick and it won't stick when you remove the bowl.
