A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

The oil is there to hold dirt. K&N's are poor in regards to trapping dirt and need all the help they can get. The question I have is why would anyone run them without oiling?

K&N's arent the only filters that require oiling.

individual filters are installed for performance gains.
if a person wants to question the "non" oiling i recommend then i suggest they stick with an air box and handle bar tassels.
unless you live back a dirt lane...
you are not going to create any noticeable wear on your engine running non oiled filters.
your bike should run the same or really close with filters on or filters off.
this is not the case when you oil your filters.
the above is my opinion and what i have done/recommended for many years with great results and no complaints about pre-mature engine wear.
if the above comments are of a concern to you then leave your air box installed and pass on the whole "pod" thing.

K&N recommends oiling the filters for a reason; dirt entering the engine will wear out the rings, among other things. It's not the kind of wear anyone would notice unless they stack a goodly many miles on the bike though. Personally, I don't see the point of not oiling the filter, but hey, I'm not a pods fan so there you go.

Josh, can you take a side by side pic of the Ape and K&N showing the mounting area?

I called Jay at APE a while back regarding his filters. He claimed they were the same as K&N.

So to oil or not to oil? Never oiled my K & N pods on the 700...

K&Ns come oiled Joe. ;)

The K&N cleaner works really well if you want to de-oil them, but I would avoid getting it on your hands. It will remove all the oil in your skin too...

After cleaning I just use the K&N oil and lightly spray it on.
