    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Katana front end/wheels swap

So I have the opportunity to purchase a complete front end and wheels from a 92 Katana 600 for 250 bux. Guy says the forks are straight and the wheels have a brand new $150 powdercoat job on them. This seems like a pretty good deal...

Been considering this for my 84 Katana 750 (think 83-85 GS750/700E, but prettier)for a long time now. Mostly, I just want to get modern sized wheels so I can have a greater selection of rubber. Hopefully will be going to look at the items tomorrow. I know lots of folks have done this (Griffin, King of Venus) and it should be a pretty easy swap.

Any thoughts?
 
What about fork length? I thought those forks are shorter than a GS fork?
 
Don't know about fork length, however, the current setup runs a 16 inch wheel while the newer Katanas run 17....

I wondered if your Kat ran a 16". That helps alot with the clearance issue. Are both wheels included? If not a 4.5" rear might fit. I can get a few measurements off my swingarm if it will help. Even the 600 3.5" wheel is a nice improvement with a 140 so if you are getting a set go with it.
 
Should be both wheels included, handlebars, forks, brakes, fender - in short - everything I should need. Dude hasn't called me back re: when I can come see the stuff. Maybe next week as I work Weds thru Sat.

Anything I should need to know before I jump in both feet first?

you might need everything , but it is not necessarily everything that is required.

Usual issues to deal with in doing conversions are:

steering stops

guage mounts

tach/speedo conversions

counter shaft sprocket offsets

real wheel spacers to fit new offsets.

headlamp ears for increased fork size.

new brake lines to accommodate new handle bar positions (clipon to riser for example).

swing arm swap outs (depending on which one can be more or less complicated).

Don't let this scare you as it has all been dealt with before, just don't thing you will be able to just bolt and go.

I'm biased, but I say go for it. And if you do and need help with the steering stops ect. shoot me a pm and I'll be glad to help. I must add this though, I'm swapping my rear wheel to a 4.5 from an '89 1100 gsxr so I can run a 160 cause of the bigger selection of tires to choose from.
 
Don't know if its even going to happen. Dude hasn't been super punctual in returning calls, etc...

Seems like a bit of a red flag to me.

After almost a week of calling the guy with no return calls, I'm BIO'ing it.
