    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I did my search in tech info & GS Discussion area, where the info should be, no luck.

1.)What's the difference between THIS KEY and THIS KEY ?? Obviously something for the price difference.

Different p/n's but they appear the same?

p/n 6814-4000 and 37146-47010

2.) Is 79-86 the correct year span for the rubber headed keys
3.) Did these bikes come from Suzuki with ONE key or TWO different keys. I've seen it both ways:-k.

I've had the local locksmith make me spare keys for both the '83 1100G and ES for $3/ea. Rubber coat is $2 extra, so why order them?? $31????...what?...plus shipping? and still pay to have them cut?? yikes!
 
You do realize you can still order OEM key blanks from Suzuki, right? They're about $9 - $12 depending on where you get your parts.

Look on the "optional" fiche.

You can also have keys cut using the three-digit key code, and there are one or two fleaBay sellers who have stacks of new precut keys, and will sell you a matching code if they happen to have it.

Because I'm anal and like factory keys:oops: I'm seeking therapy though;)...Do like the Jim's brand flat ones for the wallet.

Yes I know, I have the fische is bookmarked! And key codes are pretty common whether it be an ignition or a combination lock. I have not bought any, but have a decent deal in the works.

Couldn't find the supersession chain on the keys. but I did look at the keys closely, without having them side by side to compare, there is no difference. the tip, head, grain, lettering and length of groove are the same.
one of my "jobs" at work is to cut keys. (my duplicates are re-worked ford keys, cut to length and thinned)
 
i have two keys for my 82 1100g. one is for the ignition, and has 250 on it, the other one fits the back lock and the helmet lock.
 
Another reason for the two different part numbers could simply be that it a superseded part and maybe one or two cosmetic things are different but functional wise there the same.
 
Not sure about the year range for the rubber-headed keys, but I have seen '81 and '82 keys for various bikes in my garage that had the factory rubber-headed keys.

There should have been two keys delivered with each bike, but they were the same cut, and either key would operate all the locks on the bike.

The price difference is because there IS some poor shmuck out there willing to PAY that price for a blank key because he is either A: Lazy and doesnt do the small amount of research required to find that they are not only still available from Suzuki, but that Joe's Lock and Key down the street might be able to cut him a dup right there on the spot, OR B: Because he doesnt care to pay that much, maybe he thinks its a rare collectable item.

I see this with ALOT of GS parts on Ebay. The sad thing is, ive watched parts that are STILL AVAILABLE thru Suzuki, and might be 12 bucks new, go for 60 bucks at the last second because two or three poor, uneducated fools got into a bidding war over them. When sellers see this, they either assume that these parts are actually worth this much, and start setting rediculous starting bids or reserves on them, or they REALIZE that these people are idiots and purposely take advantage of it.

i must have a replaced trunk lock, then. i got three keys with mine, two that fit the ignition, one that fits the trunk lock and helmet lock. it also fits the gas cap, but will not open it properly.
