    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I can't believe you would say such a thing. Suzuki isn't into fashion statements (excluding the 80's Katanas). Yea it might seem "cool" to start the bike with a kick starter but it was also useful for:

1) Getting the bike started if the battery was weak
2) Like Steve's problem - the starter isn't working
3) Get some oil circulating through the engine after it has been sitting the in the garage for an extended period of time
4) Tune ups - setting the point gap and adjusting valves

That was intended as humor. OF COURSE a kick starter is useful to have and a Harley by any definition actually is a motorcycle. :-) However, we can certainly debate the degree of how good a motorcycle a HD is. LOL

I know you were just messing around. That is why I put the :-) on the post.

There was an article in Cycle/Motorcyclist?? when the GS1000 debuted that stated the engineers could lose ~35 lbs. by getting rid of the kickstarter and assembly.

Well, after doing some research, and looking at some pictures, Today I found a sidecover and kickstart gear off a '79 gs550. When it gets here I will those of you who are interested know if it fits or not. I don't see why it wont, but you never know. I still need the kickstart lever if anyone has one laying around.

Nope, but I used to start my MGA with the handcrank inserted through the front bumper that keyed into the crankshaft. :-) On a cold day, I would turn on the electric fuel pump, pull the engine through three, four times with the handcrank, set the choke, then switch on the ignition and one yank on the crank and she'd be running. LOL
