    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi I have an 1100GK(82), the kickstand engine cut out switch has never worked the switch checks out with a continuity check, i tried connecting to the existing wires but didn't work, in the clymer manual the gw and bw wires go to a diode,where is this diode located please anybody and how does the cicuit work as i recall when the kickstand is down the switch is in closed circuit,and visa versa.and could it be wired to the handlebar kill switch? GKLENNY

I don't think that those of us "across the pond" will be much help, because on my '83 "G" the kickstand is only connected to a warning light on the "dash." I'm pretty sure that NONE of the GS's had actual cutout switches, which is unfortunate, because that slick idea would have saved two friends of ours from an unnecessary hospital visit which resulted from a kickstand inadvertently left down.

Both are 100% now, but an automatic cutout sure would've "done the trick" when they needed it!

Hi GK,

Must be an only GK1100 model as the ES/EZ don't have one either, only a light.

On the ES/EZ its under the tank, a rectangular block about 20mmx150mmx80mm and is rubber mounted, with about 20 odd wires going into it. If you look just about where the fuel tap is you'll find it.

Costs about £40.

perhaps i was mistaken assuming it was a cut out switch, some body may have changed the instruments because there arn't any other spare lights out, i'll look into addding a warning light.
 
For what it's worth, my '83 1100GL doesn't cut out with the kickstand down, either. The switch just turns on the idiot light.
