A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

KN filter cleaning

Ho folks, My bike came with an aftermarket K&N filter. Can anyone give me a quick lesson on the proceedure for cleaning it. It's time to start getting it ready for spring. (oil, air filter, spark plugs you get the picture)

There is a kit with a mild acid and some spray oil. Folks say it can be cleand with gasoline and oiled with light oil.

To clean a K&N gauze filter:
Gently tap off any larger dirt particles. K&N recommends their filter cleaner, but you can make a mixture of 409 or similar cleaner mixed with WARM water, to clean the filter. Even dish soap will probably work, but don't suds it up. Mix it strong enough to cut oil/grease. I personally use their cleaner. Lasts a long time. I would use the 409 or similar as my second choice. I've never used dish soap, but some here say you can. I know dish soap works for foam filters, but I don't know how well it cleans gauze filters.
Pour the cleaner into a shallow pan ABOUT 1/4" DEEP. No more. You don't want the cleaner flowing into the filter. You just want it about the depth of the filter's pleats. ROLL the filter slowly back and forth through the cleaner until it's clean. The dirt should fall out and sit on the pan bottom. If you're not sure you got it all, make some fresh cleaner and repeat.
Next, RINSE THE FILTER FROM THE INSIDE OUT. Use a hose or faucet. NO HIGHER PRESSURE. NO HOT WATER. Just warm/cold is fine. The integrity of these filters depends on washing/rinsing this way. NEVER just wash or rinse the filter off from the outside in.
Next, shake out and allow to completely air dry. K&N says don't use heat.
After it's dry, use K&N filter oil. Don't use motor oil, etc. Follow the oiling instructions on the can.
This info pretty much follows K&N's instructions exactly. :)

I allways had good results with 2 stroke oil, been using it for 25 years no probs.
