A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Knocking from stator cover.

I feel like I have seen/heard this problem before after replacing a stator. Chuck - I am very curious to see what you figure out. I hope you get it worked out soon.

I was gonna say the 750s aren't as prone to starterclutch problems as the big hole bikes but it was worth a look. I think you're chasing phantom noises there chuck. You pulled your valve cover yet?

Josh .. me and Dale found the problem.. First there were no broken bolts in the starter clutch but only 1 out of 3 were loctited. They werent loose but they werent torqued in either. I reassembled all that and put the loctite on all 3 bolts . Rode it up to Dales work and he listened to it and suggested that maybe the clutch hub bolt was loose. I didnt think so cause i remember buying the big socket for it and was sure. Took his advise and tore into the clutch side.. Dale came by and we discovered that there are some LOOSEISH springs in the back of the hub and that we are running abit rich and he is gonna bring the guage over and we are gonna do a really anal intensive syncing and see if that helps a bit as well..It wasnt phantom noises..dale heard it as well..Thanks for the help Dale..

Just backed up reading the posts..Spyderman wins the beers!!!!!!
thank you but how do i collect said beers 1900 miles is a bit far to drive just to have a beer
as for the noise well you should rebuild your clutch basket
but it's not a you need to do it now kinda thing you can ride it this season without any problems and do it in the winter with a nice heavy duty kit
tkent posted a while back a quick fix for this at least i think it was him that posted it
also to stop it from making the rattle at idle just turn it up a few hundred RPM and it should go away
it is a very common flaw in the GS series bikes but not a fatal one
glad you found out what it was
