A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

OK, one more problem now till i take this thing for a spin for its first rde in 6 years...
Engine runs great, but my clutch isn't working. It worked fine when it was ast driven, it will go into all the gears etc. but even if i qork the clutch by hand it just doesnt seem to engage....
I removed a flowery-shaped screw, with a spring on it when I pulled the motor. I am wondering if this screw is a clutch adjuster of some sort? I dont know why i pulled it off, but I did..argh...
Any ideas? OH, 79 GS850 BTW...

Do you have any kind of manual for your bike? If not, BassCliff has one on his website that you can download and save.

The only place I know that there is a spring in the clutch line is at the clutch release lever. If you did not remove the clutch cover, the lever should still be OK. The cable needs to be connected to the lever, then fed through the guide and adjusted to where there is just a little play at the clutch lever.

Does your clutch look like this? Is the doo-hickey in the pic?

got my problem solved, thanks guys! Super handy having a laptop in the shop haha...
Tinkered with it and now we're ready to roll...just gotta put the lights, seat, tank on for good and take this thing for a roll....I bought it for 400, put 450 into it and have a 100 percent working bike for 850..not bad!

playing around with the adjustment of the clutch cable where it screws on the clutch itself...moved it out a few teeth and then it seemed fine. Work good, feels good.

TS flasher should be behind the left side cover, the turnsignal control box is under the right side cover attached to the battery box. Most people with the 78-79 auto turn signals end up converting to manual signals
