A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Leaking Fuel

I Just returned home from a deployment recently and discovered a problem with my 81 GS450L. I had left it in storage for 6 months and had a friend watch over it and drive it once a week while i was away. The bike ran beautifly he said and never once had an issue... Until i got home and wanted to go for a ride. The bike starts like a champ and runs great for about a minute or until i rev it. After that, it starts just ****ing fuel out of the breather port. I also have discovered fuel in the crank case. I have recently ordered a new petcock in hopes of fixing it. I was just wondering if anyone else would have any other thoughts on this problem. Thanks

The only way I know of the fuel to get into the crankcase is a petcock and a float needle leaking. This allows fuel to flow into the fuel bowl and overflow pouring fuel into the intake manifold.
You need a new petcock and fix the float needle problem, probably replacement.

Thanks, I appreciate the input. Just got the petcock today and im gonna see if that fixes it first, if not then onto the float needle. Thanks

If the petcock is vacuum actuated, sometimes the diaphragm falls apart and you start sucking fuel down into the vacuum port.

As a rule, don't leave the petcock on PRI (prime) - that's the gravity feed port into the bowls designed to be used after the bike has sat for a long time & the fuel in the float bowls has evaporated. Always keep the petcock on "ON" or "RES". Those 2 settings require vaccum to open the diaphram, thus allowing fuel to flow to the carbs.

If your float needle valves don't seat completely, then fuel will overflow into the crankcase even with a new petcock if left on PRI.

Probably stuff you already knew, but i figured it couldn't hurt to re-state just in case...
