    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Leaky carb

OK, small issue I'm sure, but I rebuilt my petcock while doing my restoration and this is my problem: I have BS34s from wiredgeorge and everything was fine until I rebuilt the petcock and re-installed everything. Now when I park it I get gas slowly dripping out of the middle-right carb air filter. Even after I pinch the fuel line.
(When I remove the fuel line from the petcock I get a tiny trickle in ON and RES and a flow from PRIME)
Could there be something wrong with my carbs? They were fine two months ago...

There should be NO gas coming out with the petcock in ON and RES. You may also be getting gas down the vacuum line and into the engine/carbs that way.

Regarding those georgie carbs, good luck with that; lots of reported complaints with the quality of work he does.

The vacuum line is dry... I read elsewhere here that the type of filter used could have some issues? I am using one of those clear glass ones that can be opened up and cleaned. 1/4 inlet-outlet. Maybe I should have left the petcock alone... I decided to rebuild it "just because" Anybody have a work around?

Filters can cause problems unless they are designed for a gravity feed system (most automotive filters are not suitable), plus they sometimes force the fuel line into a loop. Can't think of why this would cause the carbs to overflow though.

What are the options for a new universal On & Off / Res petcock? Are they preferred? Who has them?

There are mixed reviews regarding the rebuild kits. Getting the metal surfaces very smooth seems to be very important. If you spent the money on a new one, you wouldn't have to worry about it for another 30 years or so. Just a thought. :)

Just buy a new petcock
Did the carbs run ok since you got them back?

Don't forget to check the bolt spacing on your old petcock before ordering. The early GS's typically took the large lever petcock with different spacing from the later bikes with the small lever petcock.

Ditto what Aircooledfour said about George Lesho...I got mine done before i had found the forum and was a newbie to repairing cycles two years ago. They have been flawless and i have no complaints except had i known about the forum and how to do it myself it would have been way cheaper. Cant fault him on that either... he has to spend his time, etc, etc, and thats how he makes his living.
 
yeah only wish i had written down the settings you told me..LOL I should have you Pm me those to add to my tech notes file.
