A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Leave the Vetter Fairing...or Ditch It???

Keep the windjammer. Ugly and Beauty are in the eye of the beholder. The function of my Windjammer far outweighs its perceived uglliness or uncoolness. Its actually one of the reasons i bought this bike (for the "uncoolness", its waaaaaay cooler to me because of that misperception:)). They do look better if you balance them out with some nice luggage, they look a little anorexic on the backend without 'em. For the riding you describe, you will love the vetter.
Just my dos centavos. :D

Hmmmm, this is definitely a personal choice opinion topic. I absolutely hated the Windjammer and ended up giving it to rpickle who's trying to sell it now I believe.

Yes by all means keep throwing those Windjammers in the dumpster. That way the ones that are left will be worth more.;)

In all seriousness, it doesn't matter what item you are talking about people collecting, at some point it wasn't worth all that much. There will come a time when people will be looking for a full Vetter rig to complete a restoration and they will be scarce.

I'm heading to someone's house this evening to pick up a full set that is functional, but probably needs paint and a windshield. I think the $75 I spend will seem like a bargain at some point, maybe very soon.

Now I just need to find me an 850 to put it on . . .

windjammer

actually just bought a set of vetter 3 piece luggage and full fairing with lowers for an xs1100 yamaha i'm working on. it is the wedge shaped side bags a rear mounted case with back rest. will be the first time i've ever put a set on a bike. but i wanted a cheap bagger. total investment will be about 1,200.oo. including bike and new exhaust. mainly will be used for hauling the kids and beer on

If anyone here is looking for a Windjammer, the guy I bought my luggage from has one. It's got the lowers with it too. Off of a 78' GS 750. PM me and I'll forward the info to him.

Sorry to hijack, but I have a question.

How much does lexan run? I ask because my GK has a homemade lexan windshield, but it is so scratched up that I need to replace it. When riding at night, stop lights, headlights everything, blurs so bad in the scratches it makes it almost impossible to see.

Thanks

Lou

Incidently, I have always been taught that you dont want to be looking thru the windscreen anyway. Its just there for wind deflection and only clear so you can see whats immediately in front of you. Just my .02

I'm removing the one from my newly aquired 1000G. Its black and gold. Free for pick up in Tillamook, OR.

Looks great no cracks. No cracks in shield either.

Its the later type with the recessed headlight bucket. I lucked out on this as this bike has the original headlight shell and ears still on it. The other two Vetter equipped bikes I have dealt with had those components missing.

FWIW, I also stripped the Suzuki dealer installed optional fairing off of a GS850G I think it was either a Calafia or a Pacifico. It also had the original shell and headlight brackets still installed on it.

I love Vetter Windjammers, I've had them on my two favorite bikes, and never rode behind a better shield. If you don't want yours, send it to me,I'll save it for my next project.

After a ton of flip-flopping back and forth on this issue, I've decided that (for at least the time being) I'm going to keep the Vetter on the bike.

I'm going to paint it along with the rest of the bike this spring, but I'm going to keep it. I figure I might as well at least try the bike out with the fairing on for a while to see if I like it before I go ripping it off of the bike.

I also agree that the bike looks better with the Vetter when it's got bags on it...now, if only I could find a luggage rack so that I could get a top case to fit on the back of this thing...
